Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"

Jtis1: If you haven't already lowered your keel I can try to answer your question. My boat was on the trailer so I raised it up on some 4X4 wood blocks - I think two or three. I took several pictures so I'll have to see if I can find them. After the back of the boat was raised, I put a car jack unde...

Re: Backstay Adjuster

Although the back stay adjuster was a success in every way, it accelerated the demise of my rigged up mast head extender. I purchased a new sail that has a "roach" in it and it would hit the stock back stay. So I extended it using what I could find in stainless steel laying around the shop...

Mast Raising

I made a video of the process of raising my mast. It offers a unique perspective since I have the furler mounted permanently and have to deal with it each time I raise and lower my mast. If anybody is interested, it's here on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZm_QE1Yb_k I skipped a few parts ...

Re: Backstay Adjuster

Aubrey, I've been thinking about mounting a preventer on my 26S and how to accomplish it, so I'm very interested in what you end up doing. . Hey Viz: I was thinking of doing something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al2oE40h1yE&feature=related But make both sides permanently attached ...

Re: Backstay Adjuster

Oh ya I do not know what I was thinking. I thought you were fractional rigged also. (I guess that is what I get for drinking and posting) Today was perfect conditions for the Sonar. There was about 13 boats that came out including an 11 meter, J29, S29.5 and Evelyn 32. We had a really good race and...

Re: Backstay Adjuster

Your back stay is going to give you a lot of mast bend and a little more tension on you fore stay. You will like being able to adjust it. I have a 4 to one going from one side to another with a pulley on the back stay giving me 8 to 1. more power than I need but makes it easy to adjust. you can get...

Re: Backstay Adjuster

make sure your forestay is up to the task. I have a split backstay on my 25 and all I need to do is tie a line across them and tighten it by hand (granted mine is a fractional rig, so the upper part of the mast is unsupported). http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/picture.php?albumid=1703&pictu...

Backstay Adjuster

Two weeks ago I signed up for a series of races called the "Frostbite" series hosted by a local yacht club. I was the slowest boat and the least experienced skipper. I got lots of encouragement from the other boaters and learned quite a bit even though I finished last. Two good bits of adv...

Re: Keel Lock-Pin Hole Repair - Swing-Keel V222

UPDATE ** Last week I took the boat out for several hours and ended up with about ten gallons of Joe Pool lake in the bilge. It was splashing through the newly drilled, smaller keel lock pin hole. I was just using a stainless steel pin stuck through the hole to lock the keel in place. Last night I w...

Another video - more winter sailing in Texas

Sweet - Keep'm coming, my boat is in the back yard buried under 24 inches of snow. Paulieb This weekend my daughter and I entered a race at Joe Pool Lake and tried out my spinnaker and sock for the first time. We learned a lot from the experience and mostly what NOT to do but it was all fun and I d...

Front Hatch - Venture 2-22

Hi guys: I got my boat without a front hatch. I purchased a small hatch and installed it, but I would rather have a stock Mac hatch so I'll have more access to the cabin from the deck. I'd like to be able to stow and retrieve my spinnaker from the hatch and the one I installed is just too small. Any...

Re: 1972 Venture 2-22 Reburbish

Aubrey - are you sure the pix are of the same boat? Under high mag, the bow numbers look different to me... :?: :?: I found the pictures on line and would like to contact the guy because it looks so much like my boat. The pictures were on the same website with a few pictures of the refurbish so I a...

Re: 1972 Venture 2-22 Reburbish

Boat wise, there is not much new to report other than she sits on the trailer out at my folks under a frozen white blanket. Career wise is a nothe matter. I received a layoff notice in October which made me one of over 8500 total layoffs from Cessna since 2008. I wasn't too shocked as I was just ha...

Re: VHF radio location?

I mounted the com radio on my Venture 2-22 on the right side of the companionway exit looking from the inside. The radio for music is below the television:

The com radio is not connected to anything yet, just mounted.

Mine is built like a tank. :)
