Re: Battery group 24? 27? deep cell?

So, after reading through this thread, I'm tending towards purchasing two identical deep cycle batteries to replace the batteries that are currently sitting "dead" in my garage (Both are >6 yrs old and neither holds a charge). My question is this: I have no access to shore power where I st...

Re: Suzuki DF50 losing prime

Thanks for the input from everyone.

At this point I'm going to do the following:

1. Replace the entire fuel line/bulb/quick disconnect assembly.
2. Replace the fuel filter.
3. Ensure there are no air leaks by teflon taping and reseating my fuel risers on the tank.

I'll test and see what happens.

Suzuki DF50 losing prime

Recently took the family out for a day of motoring. Things got off well, and we were underway when the engine started to sputter and lose RPM's, then died. I put everything back to neutral, re-primed the fuel line and off we went again, only to have the same problem repeat. I can keep the engine run...

My two cents: Having learned to sail "blue water" on Lake Michigan during a midshipman summer (participated in the Chicago-Macinac Race that summer) and then continued to sail light displacement boats off the coast of San Diego for 4 years, and now sailing my own 26M on the Chesapeake Bay ...

My luff has a gentle "S" bend in it when not rigged. I've tried to straighten it using the PVC pipe trick discussed in the manual, with little success. The Curve goes away under tension (i.e. when the forestay is attached). Can anyone tell me if they know of a way to get the curves out? -M...

Chip, I own a 26M (2005). David Mellon pretty much summed up the problem in the preceeding post. I don't know much about winch placement on the X models, but I do konw that the cabin is slightly higher on the M, perhaps placing the winch higher and thereby making the problem more pronounced. I too w...

Frank, The issue is the extra 30 degree turn that the line has to make on the starboard side. On the port side, the tailing end doesn't cross the working end. If you draw it out on a piece of paper, you will see the problem (I had to do this when I made the original post). The key to the whole thing...

I appreciate everyone's comments. I think I'll look into raising the cam cleats a bit, as the problem is, in fact as David states, that the tailing end has to be forced down ontop of the working end in order to be cleated. Bill - I've done the S turn thing before, but it tends to make some of the pa...

Maybe I'm obtuse, but I know that on one side of the boat the sheet goes around the winch a couple or wraps and then leads to the cam cleats cleanly, while on the other side, the tailing end of the sheet has to cross over the working end to be cleated off. This is awkward, and I figured if the winch...

Starboard Winch Woes

I bought my boat new a year and a half ago and noticed that the starboard winch apears to have been installed wrong. Both winches rotate in the same direction, which works great on the port side, but causes me grief on the starboard side, as there is no way to correctly cleat off the genoa sheet. Ca...

Replacement pelican hook on stock 26M lifeline

Recently returned from an extended trip abroad (read that anyway you like), and am prepping the boat for launch. At some point over the past 10 months the spring loaded plunger on one of the lifeline pelican hooks was lost, and I am now the proud owner of a pelican hook body without a method of secu...
