Hey Guys,
I just made a new rudder for my Venture 222 and was wondering what is the best thing to seal it with? It is made of oak and I wanted to keep the natural look of the wood as I have carved the headpiece of the rudder with a Maori dolphin design. Any suggestions of products to seal the wood?

Woohoo Lake Milford! I used to spend a lot of time there when I was stationed at Ft. Riley, man those were some great times. Congrats on the boat and I think the batt powered LEDs are great, no wires to run and they last forever.

Re: A Kick-up Rudder for Spirit (V-22)
Wow that looks really cool and I am really jealous of the sweet tools but they would be dangerous in my hands so I will stick to hand tools (only dangerous to myself that way). Can't wait to see it finished, it looks really clean and modern. Here is a pic of mine that I am building using chisels and...

So here is another question
I was offered a trade of a motorcycle for this boat but as I was cleaning her to show, I started feeling that old infatuation with her. With Jimmy Buffett playing on my iPod, looking at her sparkling again, I begin to get a little remorseful about even thinking about getting rid of her. So what do y...

Re: New owner of Venture 222?
I have two masts, steps, booms and sails, one set original that has a slight bend in the lower mast about a foot above the step and one set that I salvagled off an 0'day that has a masthead but is about 8" shorter than the original mast. Both sets are missing half of their adjusters ( lol imagi...

Re: New owner of Venture 222?
all of the cushions are the originals and are starting to show their age but are still very serviceable. All of the wood is intact but I have removed some to refinish. The headliner was removed as it was sagging and of course I have lost it somewhere in process over the last four years. All of the w...

Re: New owner of Venture 222?
Physically (not knowing much at all about sailboats) she seems to be in great shape. The is no cracked or broken fiberglass that I can find anywhere except in the cabin which appears to be where a boom possible was slammed against it (same shape and size). Hardly any crazing, and the original gelcoa...

Re: New owner of Venture 222?
Ok what little I know about the boat? It was bought new by the PO and they took it out every summer for two weeks and then brought in back in and washed her down and put her back into the garage. In 2004 Mr. PO passed away and Mrs. PO could not bring herself to sail without him, so she sat in the ga...

New owner of Venture 222?
http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab255/travouslucas/35ad8074.jpg new member of the forum and finally getting to work on my boat that I bought nearly 4 years ago. I think it is a 77-78 Venture 222. I could use some guidance on how to rig her as I don't have any clue on how to do this and also that...
