old Mac 26X thread I am unable to find

So years ago there was a thread (I think on this website, but i'm not certain - I'm asking on another site too) from a user who was enthralled with the MacGregor 26X and did a comparison between them and I think the 26M.  This guy practically wrote an entire Treatise on it, using various math formul...

Re: Mac Trawler....

Also a second question... if one removes the mast and rigging, how does that handle the stability of the boat? I would assume it's more stable, yes? Mostly I'm asking because would the "max" capacity still be 6 people, even if ballast is added for slower/stable cruising?

Re: Mac Trawler....

Dude that's seriously awesome, I've always wondered if that might be an option to just leave the mast and rigging at home and just make it a cruiser :) Personally, I think I'd still rather have the sail option handy for slow cruising or save some gas when getting from A to B doesn't have a time cons...

Looking for a ride near Orlando

Hey all, my family and I will be flying in to Orlando, FL (from Kansas City) March 5 through March 13, and I'm wondering if there are any of you kind folks that might be willing to give a landlubber a test ride? I'll just be a passive passenger, unless you need help (I'm a novice). I'm wanting to bu...

Re: First Family Trip Out: Disaster

It bugs the sh~t out of me when boaters come balls-to-the-wall into their slip (well they're still no-wake, but it seems like they're going too fast) and then at the last second switch to reverse to stop. One of these days their throttle will stick or something and they'll damage the dock and/or the...

Re: First Family Trip Out: Disaster

[/But we are the men... we can train the dog/boat, right? (or ourselves anyway)quote] I just saw this! Actually I'm not a man, I'm very much a lady and so is my wife. I'm not sure who of us is the Admiral! The Captain is usually the one obsessed with boating/sailing/whatever, and the Admiral is the...

Re: Refused Insurance

That statement, if true, would be enough to convince me not to seek coverage of any marine vessel from this company If there is such a profound lack of knowledge about boats, how do you think a claim will be processed? :| Exactly!!! Some homeowners policies will cover boats under 26' (X & Ms ar...

Yeah I don't think the MacGregor 65 uses water ballast.

Re: First Family Trip Out: Disaster

Excellent advice all around. I learned my boat (still on a powerboat - VIP - don't have a sailboat yet) by a friend showing me on my boat and his boat, how the boat reacts under various conditions. I'd suggest getting to know your slip neighbors, and take them out a few times and see if they can't s...

Re: X vs M

Heck if you don't want it, I'll drive out wherever and get it, that price is too good to pass up! Even if you didn't have the funds for a motor at the moment, you could just get a tiny 5hp or 10hp or something to "get you by" until you could buy a bigger one. :)

Re: Stern rail seats for an X

What's the weight capacity of those seats? I fluctuate between 230 and 250 depending on time of year, etc. Some of my guests are large like me as well. Instead of "forcing" guests to take those seats if they're small, I would like to know if I could sit up there or not w/out breaking them...

Re: Newbie questions

In the middle of the country, would you choose the jib option or the 150% genoa? Also, can you furl the genoa as well? Go with the jib, non-furling. Cheapest, and you can always upgrade later if you want. You can resell a good jib for 1/2 cost, at least Is it easy for a person to upgrade on their o...

Re: Newbie questions

Speaking of porta-potties, do they make a pump-out version? Our marina has a pump-out station, and I'd like to be able to use that if it will help, is more convenient, allows for more "crap", etc, etc?
