Did BOAT sell his 26M and leave the forum?

Re: 12 Gallon fuel tanks

I've replaced my plastic tanks twice in 15 years. The UV/Sun is definitely the principal enemy. After the second set delaminated, I installed snap-in sunbrella curtain/shades which has massively extended the life of the plastic tanks (6 years old now and still good). You have to ensure you get the l...

Re: Off Season, smaller boat?

Have you considered finding a place where you can keep it rigged on the hardstand that will allow you to launch it at a nearby ramp without any setup? A yacht yard with a ramp for example. I did that for several years, and have found in many instances it was quicker and easier to get on the water th...

Re: I'm on the struggle-boat

I noticed everyone, me included, neglected to mention much about cookware, cooking appliances, dishware, and eating utensils. This is actually one of the most important lists of things that you will customize and evolve, and will be very required for almost all types of use cases, from day sailor to...

Re: Is Full Throttle BAD For Outboards?

I've spoken with outboard engine mechanics and one person who formerly worked at BRP. What I've been told is similar to the first video, outboards are purposefully engineered to run at max power for long periods of time, unlike car engines. However, with modern 4-stroke outboards that doesn't mean y...

Do you mean just rigging lines for the daggerboard, or the complete running rigging setup for the M?

Re: I'm on the struggle-boat

Chumpy, the list of essentials depends a lot on what your boat use-case and the conditions in which you're going to routinely store and use it. For example, if you're essentially a day sailor who keeps his boat in a local marina and never goes outside the range of TowBoatUS, you really don't need to...

Re: Winch Handle Holder?

I use the winch handle on the occasions listed above for the jib halyards. I also use it for tightening the main halyard that goes through turning blocks and a rope clutch mounted on the deck to get the last few wrinkles out of the luff. I have the same winch holder as pictured above, but have it mo...

Re: New to forum.

I got my orignal topping lift from BWyachts as well, with the two hooks on a 1/4 inch line tied off to the top of the mast. I decided that only being able to elevate the boom to only two different heights was inconvenient. It would always make the boom a bit too high or a bit too low and sometimes c...

Re: New axel and hubs for M trailer

My steel rims rusted through after 13 years to the point that they wouldn't hold air in the tires. Aluminum would probably last longer, but 13 years isn't bad.

Re: New axel and hubs for M trailer

My stock 2011 26M trailer is in the same situation as yours. Last year I did some repairs and assessments of the trailer and explored one option for adding a second torsion axle. with the boat in the water I pulled the wheel, hub, and spindle assemblies and used an air hammer, wire brushes, sanding ...

Re: Repower and Repair or Sell?

From the pictures it seems the hull gelcoat is restorable, but you may need to repaint the black, but I don't think so. This appears to be a boat worthy of being brought back to life. The big ticket items would need to be replaced on any boat of this age: Outboard, sails, standing rigging, and runni...

Re: Accidental Gybe Prevention/Control - Boom Brake

Accidental Gybes in the Mac are all too easy to happen. I think it is even more likely because the light weight, water ballast, that causes the relative tenderness can pretty quickly shift your angle to the wind when sailing on a run. I have used various preventers systems, but often did not hook th...

Re: Relocate head compartment

Looks great, and I love the location and the form factors. I have a question though. I'm wondering about hull flexing effects on the build. Do you think that the resin-based seals in corners and the new bulkheads will be sufficiently flexible or, in contrast, strong enough to withstand the stresses?...
