Re: drop keel rigging

Do you mean just rigging lines for the daggerboard, or the complete running rigging setup for the M?

Re: I'm on the struggle-boat

Chumpy, the list of essentials depends a lot on what your boat use-case and the conditions in which you're going to routinely store and use it. For example, if you're essentially a day sailor who keeps his boat in a local marina and never goes outside the range of TowBoatUS, you really don't need to...

Re: Winch Handle Holder?

I use the winch handle on the occasions listed above for the jib halyards. I also use it for tightening the main halyard that goes through turning blocks and a rope clutch mounted on the deck to get the last few wrinkles out of the luff. I have the same winch holder as pictured above, but have it mo...

Re: New to forum.

I got my orignal topping lift from BWyachts as well, with the two hooks on a 1/4 inch line tied off to the top of the mast. I decided that only being able to elevate the boom to only two different heights was inconvenient. It would always make the boom a bit too high or a bit too low and sometimes c...

Re: New axel and hubs for M trailer

My steel rims rusted through after 13 years to the point that they wouldn't hold air in the tires. Aluminum would probably last longer, but 13 years isn't bad.

Re: New axel and hubs for M trailer

My stock 2011 26M trailer is in the same situation as yours. Last year I did some repairs and assessments of the trailer and explored one option for adding a second torsion axle. with the boat in the water I pulled the wheel, hub, and spindle assemblies and used an air hammer, wire brushes, sanding ...

Re: Repower and Repair or Sell?

From the pictures it seems the hull gelcoat is restorable, but you may need to repaint the black, but I don't think so. This appears to be a boat worthy of being brought back to life. The big ticket items would need to be replaced on any boat of this age: Outboard, sails, standing rigging, and runni...

Re: Accidental Gybe Prevention/Control - Boom Brake

Accidental Gybes in the Mac are all too easy to happen. I think it is even more likely because the light weight, water ballast, that causes the relative tenderness can pretty quickly shift your angle to the wind when sailing on a run. I have used various preventers systems, but often did not hook th...

Re: Relocate head compartment

Looks great, and I love the location and the form factors. I have a question though. I'm wondering about hull flexing effects on the build. Do you think that the resin-based seals in corners and the new bulkheads will be sufficiently flexible or, in contrast, strong enough to withstand the stresses?...

Re: Adding LiON to existing system

These two 26M owners' videos show how they upgraded their system to include Lithium Ion house capacity in pretty good detail. I can't recall either of them posting their stuff on the forum or Mods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax4gIlyTyms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1H2m0zGgY8 Maybe the site...

Re: Mac Hate?

Ironically, the only real negatives I've ever gotten is from the power boating community folks in MD. Weirdly, the power boat and sailboat communities in the Chesapeake often have antipathy toward each other. Especially the power boaters who fancy themselves watermen, or wannabe watermen. (I.e. recr...

Re: Length of spreaders

Cut those spreaders to original length. There is a math calculation in place with the spreader/ shroud angles. Plus the issue of dancing the spreaders under the lifeliness Very critical to keep those the length of the original design. Also, try to make sure the spreader connector to the side stay i...

Re: 26m swim deck add on

I agree. Having the rudders out horizontal like that underway will definitely bend the rudder brackets at best and possibly damage the rudders as well when encountering any kind of lateral load (e.g. a heavy following swell or a powered turn at plaining speed). Even sitting at dock/anchor you'll get...

Re: Battery drained

Couple of things to consider. - If your batteries were run totally dead I would highly recommend getting them load tested because they may have been damaged beyond their ability to hold a charge. - you can do a simple volt test with a multimeter on each battery to get an idea of how bad it is. If th...
