Re: FWD, mud, wind, 1st retrieval/trailer fun and games.
Looked good on the video, it gets easier with more atempts. Can recommend letting some ballast out as well, easier to get it up on the front bunk 1st time and not need the mac bump ! Were in P'boro on the Nene in winter and Wells next the sea in summer with the odd trip to the Broads and France thro...

Re: Topping lift question
Having just added a topping lift and seen how much the main sail rubs agains it while on a reach or run even though it is slack i would not consider cable. As for the MOB i have a block and seperate line set up to hook on approx 3/4 length of the boom to assist bringing an MOB back on board again th...

Re: Better location for the mast hinge?
I like your idea, it would make things easier ! I would be paranoid about the hinge failing though as i'm sure there is something about the current set up spreading the base load of the mast across a larger area. I was wondering rather than just and hing if you could also have a slideing collar or t...

Re: Going to look at an X next week
Hi, Welcome to the club!
I would agree with getting used to the boat before fitting any perm mods, we got ours last Sept and the mods we had planned we have now amended after spening time on the Mac, I am still taking panels off to see what's behind them !

Re: Mast fall lessons learned
I am paranoid about the mast falling even when it's up I worry about the forestay falling so always tie off the Jib Halyard to act as a second forestay. When we raise the mast I walk the mast up while my wife winches from the cockpit , the mast raising takes the effort out of it but I still support ...

Re: battery placement
I asked the same question when we got out mac last year (http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16868&start=0) . After lots of thinking and analysing what space we do and don't use I decided to place two extra 100amp batteries at the base of the aft bed just either side of...

Re: Unable To Tack On Main In Light Winds
Thanks for the help, I think we may have been guilty of turning too quickly trying to maximise our speed but this may have slowed us down by stalling the rudders.
Out on the water in a couple of weeks so we will see how we do.

Unable To Tack On Main In Light Winds
We took out new :macx: out on an inland lake and got the sails up for the first time, we started with just the main, we noticed that it was very difficult to Tack, most times it got almost round but before the sail moved across the sail depowered and we started to drift, we were forced to bear away ...

Re: Wanna help brainstorm an O/B problem?
Reading the Seloc outboard manual the prop as a rubber hub shock absorber that is set to slip above any normal propulsion force ie when it hits something, the drive shaft should continue to turn with the hub slipping while the prop is stuck. If it becomes worn it can slip under normal operation and ...

Re: Reefing point - eye/hook coordination
I had the same problem and ended up taking the drop nose pin out (easier than your bolt) to allow the reef, but still hassle , Hardcrabs advice is simple but brilliant, I will be moving my slug to allow reefing this weekend ! Thanks

Re: Starter solenoid
The Seloc outboard manual I have covers both Mercury and Yamaha so it makes sence that a Yamaha one would fit, what model engine is your yamaha ?
The unit is stand alone and i'm thinking as long as I can mount it so it is secure then any brand should do.
thanks
