Yep, that is a massive engine you got there.
What about using the EZ Stik? https://www.ezyglide.com/mechanical-steering-systems/. You don't need a pedestal for it.

Re: Steering alternatives for my 19?
I find if I turn my motor to one side than I can tilt it all the way up. What motor do you have? I also heard of one person who removed the rudders and steering links all together and just uses the motor as a rudder when sailing and found that it works satisfactory. I'm also of thinking of trying th...

Re: M19 newest owner- why are there holes in my boat?
It's nothing to worry about. I've had my boat in the water for 5 months. if you look at your rudders you will see that they are attached to posts which goes through the boat to attach to the tiller. Obviously, there has to be a hole underneath the boat for the 2 post to come out where the rudders ar...

Re: 40hp Four Stroke
Not sure what the dimension and weight of the Merc is, but I have a 40HP Evinrude 4-stroke on my :mac19: with one minor modification required. That is the ballast tank valve .... the motor mount is larger so will interfere with the handle. I had to turn the valve so that the handle is more horizonta...

Re: 26X vs 26M
But at the same time, why is the head so important? If sailing longer distances in challenging weather, no one will be able to rest in the head. The bigger head in the :macx: would be more important to us because it's size (for most people anyway) and the fact it's enclosed allows you to mod in a s...

Mac 19 With 115 HP
When I first saw pictures of Highlander :mac19: on this forum, I thought wow, he out did every :mac19: in existence. Well, it turns out that one fella beat him out in the motor area ..... check it out, a 115 HP outboard on a :mac19: : http://sailboatnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/-43096120731464...

My 2 cents Going from a :mac19: to a :macx: or :macm: is moving down not up :!:  :P :) :D Doug :D :D :D Good one Doug. Thanks everyone for your insightful comments ..... I probably should have done a search before posting but I ended up finding quite a few lengthy threads on the subject. I th...

26X vs 26M
Hi All I currently own a :mac19: and been thinking of moving up to a 26 X or M. I went and looked at a 2004 :macm: today. Although it's been a while since I last been on a :macx: it seems like the cockpit of the :macm: is smaller. I suspect they are probably the same but can someone confirm this? Do...

Re: What's a Good Price 4 a MacGregor 19 and have you tried one?
Hey guys. I'm the one that bought that 19! Small world... One of the sweetest deals and little boats I've ever had! I drove all the way from Tucson to scoop it up. The thing is loaded to the gills too. Remote stick steering and throttle for the motor and has a compliment of electronics that I'm sti...

Re: What's a Good Price 4 a MacGregor 19 and have you tried one?
The :mac19: steers like any other sailboat .... tiller and rudders when sailing .... motor tiller when powering. There is no linkage to connect the rudders to the motor like the :macx: although some people have done it. Some people have also added wheel steering, but it wasn't standard. As far as pr...
