Re: Venture 2-22 Owners out there

I own a 84? V-22, I bought it last year in October, and have had it out maybe 8 times since. so far I like it, only problem I currently have is rain gets in somewhere and it is driving me nuts trying to figure out where. I guess I will end up having to go sit in the boat during a storm..... Did you...

Re: 1972 V21 new owner

Bob,

Good boat to cut your teeth on. Look forward to seeing some pics. I too got a free Mac Venture (2-22) and it has been fun refurbishing her.

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.

Those Genoa car tracks look like they are a bit too far back. Mine are located about 18 -24 inches farther forward and actually help to get the fore triangle balance when going on a beam reach vs pointing. I got an average of .4 knots better on a reach one day just by making an adjustment to the cars.

Re: 1979 V22 - New owner with questions.

There is a a company that sells a really cool kick up rudder attachment that is handy. It basically is a pole with a handle that fixes to a base attached to the lower part of the rudder and has two points that the pole can snap into on the top section of the Rudder. It is a great upgrade. The part i...

Re: MAC 23/24 mast?

I assume that the mast for the 23 may be shorter than the 24. If this is the case you will be shortening your rigging. If the rigging is in good shape it may not be as expensive as you can cut and swage on new fixed ends keeping the turnbuckles the same. However the extra foot of length may mean tha...

Re: Ugly windows

That is actually a common replacement for Catalina 30's and 27's (frame delete). The problem is the PO didn't do the job right. They should have used black DOW 795 adhesive on the windows and that would have blacked out the portion that has the caulk/sealant and given it a nicely "framed" ...

Re: 1976 Venture 22 Rudder?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2aCZktXrgdM/S66xIE94qwI/AAAAAAAAAKs/YrxWLk34sUI/s1600/100_2525.JPG You will need a line on the leading edge of the bottom portion of the rudder that has a cleat at the leading edge of the top portion. When you tighten this line down it will hold the rudder down but still a...

Re: 1976 Venture 22 Rudder?

You have to add a line to the leading edge and a cleat just below the base of the handle. When you push down the rudder you then tie off on the cleat keeping tension on the forward section and in turn keeping it in the down position. This will still allow it to pop up if it strikes something but wil...

Re: New to me Venture 22

Well thanks to gedaggett and a crash course in sailing, we took the boat out on our own for the first time today. Had a great time and everything went smoothly. Probably sailed about 10 miles. My dad and I practiced gybing, turning about, and playe around with adjusting the sails. Winds were perfec...

thanks for the tip, i'll rule out the spinnaker since ill be doing 99% of my sailing solo...my 4 yr old won't be much help for a while on deck. He assisted me with installing some hardware, he wanted to use a screw driver so i figured i'd let him hold a screw in place in the cockpit while i crawl u...

Re: Genoa or spinnaker for an old venture 21

The one thing that has not been said is the difficulty of running a spin single handed. It usually takes someone at the bow to raise it (unless you have a sock) but then because it is so light often times you get wraps and fouled lines that require you to go forward. I personally don't want to be go...

Hey Freedom77,

I grew up in West Virginia and transplanted to Illinois. So my Hillbilly Hijinks allows me to mention Redneck remedies.

Re: New to me Venture 22

My dad and I just bought our first sailboat, its a 1975 Venture 22, and I'm looking for some help. The boat is in great shape, and everything was included. I put the mast up, put up the main sail, and thats about as far as I can get. I'm kinda lost with all these pulleys/attachment points. I have a...

Re: Attaching forestay to chain plate

In response to your keel lock down. I sail my M22 on lake Michigan and the lock down is necessity. I am often in 3 to 4 footers and the when the the boat goes up a steep wave the keel would pitch aft and then coming over the top it will slam forward. I would suggest if you are on a body of water whe...
