Re: Help Restoring Macgregor 25
Chekc out the book : "Fix It and Sail: Everything You Need to Know to Buy and Retore a Small Sailboat on a Shoestring ". It is the process of restoring a Venture 222 bought for $400 that needed a total overhaul. At Amazon for $14, though I read it through my county library.

Trailer Question
How far out does the :macx: stern go from the rear bunks in the stock trailer? I have been calling around for tandem trailers and this is what I get: 1. Venture VATB5925 for boats 23-24 2. Continental A2450 for boats 24-25 3. Ace trailer design for :macx: based on trailer for boats 26-28 I would ass...

Re: Boat Value
Since I was on the market recently I will give you a buyer's perspective. Most likely someone looking for a :macx: will not be satisfied with a 8hp, so a new owner would have to either install a new engine, around 6k, or 3k for a used 50hp plus installation. I think it would be hard to sell if the p...

I am not “Macless Pete” anymore! I have happily purchased a 2001 :macx: with some decent upgrades. I ended up flying to Florida for a weekend and at the same time scheduled a survey. Besides some elbow grease and minor repairs/replacements the boat is dry and solid. It has been in Florida for the la...

Re: Aluminum Tandem Axle Bunk Trailer
Do they come with disc brakes? What is the difference between modifying one of these stock trailers for a :macx: or :macm: ? I am on the market for an :macx: and most likely I will be driving ~1000 miles to pick up the boat. I am seriously considering upgrading the trailer now instead of spending mo...

Offer that can't refuse?
I am probably flying next weekend to see a :macx: that I think might be the one. I am going to schedule a survey and give a deposit for the boat while I am there. The plan is to drive and pick up the Mac about a month after if everything works out. My questions for you all are: 1. Is a $1,000 deposi...

Re: Questions about buying a Mac
One of the boats that I am looking at has a dock rash about 12 inches long in the bow above the wateline. The last picture from the link below is the closest I could find on the internet http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.helmseat.com/images/Dock_Rash.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.helmsea...

Re: Lifespan of a "M" Trailer
I called a venture dealer in Maryland and it came at $3100 for a VATB-5925 with bunkers, they said that if the boat is going to live on the trailer bunks are better.

Re: Questions about buying a Mac
One of the reasons why I was considering an early :macx: was for compensating a lower cost with a new outboard, but seems like the 2000 upgrades are significant enough. Thanks for your links and pictures. Now that the sailing season is over and the cold came, the supply of boats for sale has decreas...

Questions about buying a Mac
I have been reading this page for a while and it actually has been one of the drivers for deciding to buy a Mac. I am only looking at used Macs (mostly for budget issues), and based on my research I have found that an early :macm: goes for $21K, a late :macx: for $16K and an early :macx: for $11K (a...
