Re: Super Sport Marine

Thanks for the info, people. Although my original question seems to have begun a thread that has devolved into a discussion about re-welding the original steel trailer, you did answer my inquiry. Having no welding equipment, skills, or the time to acquire such, I am going ahead with the aluminum tra...

Super Sport Marine

Has anyone dealt with these people before? Their website features aluminum trailers specifically designed for Macs at attractive prices. Need to know before I send them money.

Re: CD Furler raising sail

BTW, I posted this same question on a general sailing list a few years back and some sweetheart wrote back that it was because I had a Mac and then proceeded to rant about MacGregors. I told him politely that his reply made no sense and quit the list.

Re: CD Furler raising sail

I use lots of it. I believe the bolt rope starts to jam at the head of the sail, by which time I can’t get anymore lube to it.

CD Furler raising sail

I have a FF2 Furler on my 26X. I have always found it difficult to raise the Genoa because of all the friction. The bolt rope slot. This the second boat I have had with a CD FF2, with the same problem, so I assume everyone has the same difficulty. This is getting a bit much for my 73 year-old wrists...

Re: I hate to say it...

Please please please!!! Keep this list going and easy to access. After you get tired of just looking ast the cutesy Facebook posts, this is where the INFORMATION is. Very few other boats have anything like this and it makes being a Mac sailor a much bett5er experience.

Re: insulating the built in ice chest storage

Just get a Yetti and put other stuff in the ice box. Best solution I have found. The Yetti works impressively me izneasy to
drain and clean.

Re: Steering system friction

I sail singlehanded almost all the time. This means having to take your hands off the helm when doing all the other things involved in sailing. For example, when tacking, it would be nice to have the wheel stay where I put it while I haul the jib into position and not find the boat pointing 90 degre...

Steering system friction

At the end of last season, I replaced the steering system on my X. The old cable had developed so much friction that I was afraid it would break before I got home from the last trip. Now the steering is so light that it is impossible to let go of the wheel for more than a few seconds. The weight of ...

Re: Powersailor knockoff?

The only video I found seems to infer that they didn't have one in the water yet. The only new boat sailing was their Malbec 18 ( don't drink while boating??) I was not impressed by the unfinished "chopper gun" cabin ceiling. But then again, I have come to accept it on my X.

Re: Tacking in high winds

You are right, Boat. Somewhere around 35 degrees, the X gets squirmy, probably because it is teetering on the chine. I think it does harden up at about 40 degrees, but by then I know I'm sailing very inefficiently. I roll the Genoa in a bit, the boat speeds up, flattens out and stays on course better.

Re: Tacking in high winds

OK. Maybe 15 degrees is a bit too little, but I get my best speed going to windward at 20-25degrees.

Re: Tacking in high winds

Do this little experiment: 1. Check your speed over the growing with your GPS, when there is enough wind to keep the boat heeled at 35-40 degrees constantly. 2. Shorten sail by whatever means is the quickest, until you are sailing at a constant 15-25 degrees heel. 3. Make sure your heading relative ...

Re: Boat-trim when motoring

How does all that extra weight forward affect the sailing performance? Is it harder to get it through the wind to tack, etc.?

Re: 26 X Clanking Centerboard

Thanks, I had assumed that I was hearing the board rattling around in its slot. No, I don't leave it down when anchored or moored. I do, however leave one rudder down, where I can see any wear if necessary. This reduces the Mac's tendency to dance around the mooring, it only a little. It does make bo...
