Re: Motor sound changed. Change is bad
I would check the timing belt tensioner. The bearings can seize up. Best to not run it like that at all or you will be replacing the heads when the belt breaks. This happened to my brother's Yamaha. Simple fix but the belt, pullies must stay exactly where they are or the valve timing will be off. Us...

Re: Batteries
I carry a small jumper pack for emergencies. I once jump started my truck with one of these when it was 5F degrees outside. Amazing how much power they can deliver. I have 2 deep cycle batteries that I switch every year. The start battery is only connected to the motor and doesn't get much stress. ...

Re: Honda BF50 Rectifier Replacement
Thanks Opie. I did read your post. A few times actually before you wrote me. I was hoping to just find an OEM replacement. I might have found one. It won't be due in for this weekend so I put the cheap one back in. My daughter flipped the Perko selector to off while under full headway speed. Took ou...

Honda BF50 Rectifier Replacement
Hi All, So, I ordered an aftermarket regulator since there seem to be no OEM rectifiers available. Wires matched up and all looked great. Voltages were good and at about 14V from the 17 that I would get under 3/4 throttle. However the tach would drop in and out and flutter. I checked the wiring and ...

Re: Midship docking cleat
Lars H., I whacked a cabin top aluminum cleat on my V25 with my foot. Didn't know what was going on when I couldn't lift my foot up off it. I had to pull it off. Barefoot. The cleat jammed in between my baby toe and the next one and was buried to the hub of the cleat. I scrambled to the cockpit and ...

Re: Midship docking cleat
Use the mast base midship. Bowline knot. I wouldn't trust the rail or want to risk damaging it.

Shelf Mounting - 26M
Hi guys, I have a teak shelf that was mounted by screwing it directly into the liner on the port side near the companionway. The road vibration has caused it to fall off a couple times. I tried double sided tape and larger screws, Nope. I tried epoxying stainless threaded washers. Nope they popped o...

I literally just read this. Crazy. Everything is getting cut right now. I have been subject to both equipment and power failures as well as well as solar flare error.

Re: Ballast Valve Lube
Overeasy,
I would try the lube that I mentioned before drilling. No need to drill. A couple of strokes after you lube and you can move it with one finger. Lube the rubber groove and the stem. All done. The stuff is cheap too. I'm done with lithium grease.

Be careful,
Regular grease will eat the rubber seal.

Ballast Valve Lube
Foe all of you with the ballast slide valve on your boat, I have found the best lube. I have tried white lithium with poor results. The stuff turns chalky in no time and the valve gets harder to move than before. I got this stuff from Amazon for plumbing valves and O-rings for the house and gave it ...
