Re: Ballast Valve Lube

Overeasy,
I would try the lube that I mentioned before drilling. No need to drill. A couple of strokes after you lube and you can move it with one finger. Lube the rubber groove and the stem. All done. The stuff is cheap too. I'm done with lithium grease.

Re: Ballast Valve Lube

Be careful,

Regular grease will eat the rubber seal.

Ballast Valve Lube

Foe all of you with the ballast slide valve on your boat, I have found the best lube. I have tried white lithium with poor results. The stuff turns chalky in no time and the valve gets harder to move than before. I got this stuff from Amazon for plumbing valves and O-rings for the house and gave it ...

Re: Getting Ready!!

Very cool. I mounted a tube on the port side for my stern anchor. I'm thinking of putting the dinghy motor on the starboard like you. Lower if possible. I have my VHF antenna on the starboard side by the seat as well. Busy area. Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Getting Ready!!

Nice spot!! I am hoping to utilize the stern seat rail. Mounting a bracket on the M would be a bitch and would get in the way of the rudders when up. Thanks for the pic.

Getting Ready!!

Well, 6 months post spine surgery, 2nd one, and I am ready to go for this season. After being sidelined for a year from sailing I am ready to get Moondancer ready to go.(2005 26M. Honda 50). We just need some good weather. Melting ice and snow right now but I am sure there is more to come. Over the ...

Re: Considering an upgrade from 26S to 26M...

I went from a 1977 V25 to an M. It was from a club member and a deal I couldn't refuse. I thought I would have trouble selling my 25 but I got all the money. I invested in new steering from BWY and installed a lot of upgrades given to me with the boat. I does not sail like the V at all. I do miss th...

Re: Mast Lighting

I agree with checking the connection. That's usually where the problem is. I went through a bunch of the deck connectors. Junk. The dinghy would wipe them out when on deck and the always were a PIA. I left the deck section in place and ran a trailer connector through the the existing deck connection...

Re: Mac Hate?

I bought a 1977 V25 17 years ago and it was the best thing I ever, ever bought. Raised my kids as sailors. Night sails to Martha's Vineyard while they were sleeping with life jackets on and many, many adventures. And misadventures!! Everyone was impressed by how fast it was. A couple of years ago a ...

Re: The Impossible happened

Had to be no ballast. The heeling was a dead give away. There was no wind. With no ballast to right the boat it would lay down on its side, Past 90 degrees fill and rest on the shallow bottom. No pump would fix that. Operator error. Maybe he left the keel down too. If she were on her side it may not...

Re: The Impossible happened

Either ballast not in or the drain hoses leaked. Or both. The only way it would look like that is if it was on the bottom. It would right itself and the floatation would keep it upright. I would think a good pump and flip her right back up. Damage should be minimal. The motor might even be out of th...

Re: Favorite fans and bonus humidity question

I use a small RYOBI battery fan. Rechargeable batteries. I bought an extra battery. Works mint. It has a couple speeds and a very good clamp. I got it at Home Depot. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-USB-Lithium-Clamp-Fan-Kit-2-Pack-with-2-2-0-Ah-USB-Lithium-Batteries-and-Charging-Cable-FVF51K2SB/32...

Re: Motor choice

Nice! I'd like to see what full throttle looks like. Please post a video. I have a 2005 M and would love to put that motor on it. The Honda 50 is fine but it just doesn't have the punch to get the boat up on plane. On a good day I might get 12 knots out of it. I have a 4 blade prop on it now. It's g...
