Re: Back on the water again, finally.......off to the Bahama
Chinook, Thanks for elaborating on that part...very safe way to snorkel! I didn't mention this part as Sumner is likely not spearfishing in the Bahamas (illegal), but for those of you who may give it a try somewhere...and perhaps helpful to Sumner to visualize the possibilities since he may be doin...

Re: Florida to the Bahamas. The plan...
The Bahamas can be very unforgiving, if you get in trouble. Expect to be on your own completely. not like the USA at all. and the locals would love to have your stuff, as salvage, should you get in trouble, plan to write it all off as a loss. (low percentage odds, but its there) it would not be wher...

Re: San Francisco/Campbel area. Help to buy boat.
I missed the CL link, but can you get the seller to send you more pic's or take some video and post to you tube. the only other option I can think of, is to ask for help on some of the other (more subscribed) boards sailnet, trailersailor, ask an owner, etc. one thing I would say, is good deals don'...

Re: Slime Removal With Bottom Paint
fwiw, a tip I learned working at a marina in college was to hit barnacles with a torch as it comes out of the water. (lightly). that kills them, and makes them crumble when you get to scraping them a few days later. kinda doubt anyone will have any real problem barnacles like you see on full time in...

Re: Is There A Sturgis Bike Week For Trailer Sailors?
that's the thing being in Florida, there is not a really good time to work on your boat. in the summer, its just too darn hot and humid, and in the winter, well that's when you have wind, and its nice enough to sleep out. (in the middle of the summer, there is just no wind till after noon then only ...

Re: Is There A Sturgis Bike Week For Trailer Sailers?
There's also some kinda regatta or meet, called B.E.E.R. I think its in the panhandle of florida or texas... Think I saw it posted on the trailersailor board. and there were some guys called themself's the Conch Cruisers... they typically do a summer trip. and that group that does the north channel ...

Re: Made a big gouge in the gel coat
have you seen the pvc tubes on the bow to hold an anchor? (I have 2). http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h169/ftldiver2/MACGREGOR/P1010241.jpg Have you posted this mod? I was looking for it. I wanted to see how the PVC tubes were attached. Phil M :macm: just some big hose clamps. (the larger anchor ...

Re: What Is Up With The Gate Latches On Our Macs?
The gate latch works a lot better if you lube it with ETEC XD oil btw..... 50 or 100 weight? LOL! Gary, that is pretty impressive! if it makes you and your wife happy, thats great! But its still the illusion of security... and for fresh water, probably fine, but I'd not put door locks on my boat, i...

Re: Power loading - why it is a no-no
Most everyone in Texas powers up, so I think most ramps are designed with that in mind. I had one incident, with a smaller boat, when my trailer dropped into a hole. It was an unimproved ramp, and luckily I was able to ratchet strap the back of the trailer to the transom and "float" the t...

Re: Made a big gouge in the gel coat
I dropped an anchor on the top deck and it made a gouge just like that. Gelcoat matching was a wash at best. I'm told BW has the best color match. I might order some... Ixnigh fwiw: There is a place in ftl that I have used to successfuly match gelkote. joe's auto marine. off ravenswood rd and stirl...

Re: Last sail with brand new asymmetrical
18" will be fine, top of the mast, NO!
maybe OK in light air like in your video. but you don't have mast support for the sides on a fractional rig.

Re: AIS for Under £30.00
sorry to be a pest... I could modify my hand held ICOM VHF to support AIS, or I need to buy a Cobra or other inexpensive base station. modding the circuit board is more of the question... or is this some kind of fitting between the antenna and the station.. could you provide a few more details on wh...
