Re: FLORIDA KEYS ADVENTURE
Not this year. I pulled the boat down to the keys from NY with my Tahoe 2 years ago. If you are using South Dade marina, don't plan on spending the night there because of the "no see ums". I had an engine issue so we went back to a hotel for the first night. The guys at the marina were gre...

Re: Name & Order of Your 3-5 Most Important Mods
1) Full enclosure
2) Swim Platform
3) Cup Holders
4) Stove
5) replace galley face so you can access crap behind it.
Actually Cup Holders is probably first.

Re: Removable Swim platform - need help
I completed the platform this weekend, added a 4-rung ladder, and it works like a charm. Check out the mod. It is so worth the investment.

Re: Removable Swim platform - need help
Your weight will bend the rudder mounts - don't ask me how I know. :( Put it (I have a ladder) on one side of the boat. http://www.amazon.com/4-Step-Telescoping-Ladder-Platform-Handrails/dp/B00ORZJOZ6/ref=pd_sim_sbs_200_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0B451J8CEYRA279J20XJ Not sure what you mean. It doesn't to...

Re: Removable Swim platform - need help
I either attach a ladder to the platform, compounding the weight problem, use the motor as a step, or I put it on the other side.

Removable Swim platform - need help
I have almost solved the problem of how to put a swim platform on my 2001 :macx:. I removed the ladder and made a plate that is cut out to go below/around the rudder mount and has two tubes for the platform: http://i.imgur.com/hk0fANA.jpg Then I made a platform: http://i.imgur.com/7f74YNl.jpg And vo...

Re: Making a New Companionway Hatch Cover
I used Oak 4 years ago and it has held up excellent. Didn't cost near as much as mahogany or Teak. I have an "X" and made four pieces. 3 coats of spar varnish and it hasn't warped or faded. I have not re-coated it since, but probably will this winter. It is under a bimini most of the time,...

Ballast Tank Cleaning - How do I remove Invasive Species?
I just got back from the Keys and need to decontaminate my Ballast Tank before I put it in my home port. I can't find anything on the Forum. Can somebody point me to a thread or make a suggestion how to kill any hitch hikers?

Re: Re-Lighting Mast
I put an anchor light at the top of the mast and left the original steaming light. I got rid of the in-deck socket because the prongs on the male end were always breaking off. I bought a 4 wire flat trailer connection and ran the wires to that. The other end hangs out of the mast. They connect right...

Jeff
I went quite a bit faster than 50-55. My truck kept downshifting if I didn't go faster. It was probably a 24 hour drive. Stopped twice each way.

Re: Trailer NY to FL Keys - suggestions?
Well we made it down and back no problems other than a check engine light that came on before I left New York. Had it checked for free at Advance Auto Parts and it wasn't important. Changed my engine cables in the Universal Studios Parking lot while my kids dealt with the crowds. Put in at South Dad...

Trailer NY to FL Keys - suggestions?
I'm going to trailer my X down to the Keys from upstate NY in April. Want to Snorkel with kids in Pennekamp Park or other good places. Where should I put it? Will I be comfortable going out the 4 miles south of the Keys to the Park? Where else are good places to visit/snorkel/sun? Cheap anchorages? ...

Re: Newbie decisions questions....
1st let me say, I couldn't be happier with my X which I've had now for 6 years. My kids have skied and tubed off it for countless hours,we live on it for up to a week at a time and have trailered to other locations. I've learned much about sailing that I plan to transfer to a bigger boat when my kid...

Teleflex steering cable durability?
After only two years, my Teleflex (9' cable) steering is failing. When I replaced the broken OEM cable, I was thrilled with how easy the wheel was to turn. Today under sail, my steering became so difficult I had to call it quits. At the end of the day I disconnected the motor and rudders and they tu...
