Re: Mac 22 Rudder
My venture 222 rudder was paint over wood. I made a new one out of wood, glassed over it, then painted over it. The paint has rubbed off in a few spots but I don't worry about it with the glass under it.

Re: Gas, Batteries, and a Venture 222
There is a lot of room under the cockpit, even with the floatation foam. We added a second quarter berth on the starboard side, as we have 4 kids, and needed a place for everyone to sleep. There is no reason you couldn't make a vented gas tank locker in the stern hatch. Personally I like using it fo...

Re: macgregor 22 Replacing Trailer Bunk Boards
I replaced mine this year, as the old ones had rotted away to the point where it was unsafe. I just bought standard 2x6 (not wolmanized) from the lumberyard. Bolting them to the trailer gave them a bit of bend, and once the boat sat on them, they conformed nicely to the hull. I was worried they woul...

Not sure what you mean here. A picture might help. I find my rudder more than adequate for my v222.roadstarmedic wrote: Mine, when in dock sticks above the water about an inch or so and I have a very hard time getting out of the dock.

Re: Couple questions about fixing up my Venture 2-24
I just redid the windows on my V-222. I got some 3/4" butyl tape, and put it around the edge of the plexiglass, folding it evenly over each side. I put this into the aluminum frame (it was a bit tight, but worked). Then I bedded the frame back onto the boat with more butyl tape. So far I am ver...

Re: need help: BABYSAILING
We took our few month old daughter out sailing last year. It was just a few hours, so we put an infant PFD on her, and my wife held her for the duration. Just be careful, and use common sense, and it is doable.

Re: "Tent" for Venture Pop-up
I have thought of making a simple clear cover that snaps in place when the top is up. It seems like it would be easy using http://www.sailrite.com/Plastipane-20-Gauge-Vinyl-Window-Material-54 I need to spend a little more time in the boat though before I decide it is something I would use. I am tryi...

Re: Triple happiness Windlass
Woulg the fact that you are pulling from the top of the deck be an issue as a trailer winch? My bow eye (V222) is quite a bit lower than the deck. It seems like it would pull the boat down into the trailer, and not straight forward. This may not be an issue if you have a point on the trailer that is...

I need to build a new galley and table for mine this spring. I would love to see pictures of what others have done. I will post some when I get going on it.

I have a V222 and live in Attica, about an hour east of Lansing. Where do you sail out that way?

Re: Toronto Boat Show 2013 Jan 12-20 2013
Having never been to a boat show, does Toronto have a fair amount of sail related interest? I was thinking of going to Strictly Sail in Chicago next year, but Toronto is closer and the admiral has family there.

Re: V21 and similar keel lock bolt questions??
Are you sure about the trunk being below the waterline? I have a V 222 and it does not sit more than a few inches in the water. If your pivot was below the water line, it would almost surely leak quite a lot of water if the seals were not carefully maintained. I have never used the lock down hole (w...

Re: Rudders - NACA Airfoil Calculations
When I made my new rudder I went online and did the foil calculations and printed off a cross section that I taped to the wood blank I made. It was very easy to shape the foil with a hand power plane and belt sander. I am very happy with the result, but I have nothing to compare it to as I never sai...

Re: 1972 V21 new owner
I made new top and bottom rudder sections out of redwood from Menards. I cut it into strips, and laminated the strips together with Gorilla Glue. I shaped the bottom into a foil and fiberglassed it. I did not glass the top piece. I painted it all with porch and floor paint. It isn't a masterpiece bu...
