Hi Bob,
I'm very curious to know which larger vessel you're getting...
Will you need crew for the trip north?

Re: Stable cruising speed?
1. below hull speed.always have at least some center board or dagger and one or both rudders. Unlike power boats there are no hard chines or skegs on your hull to help you track at low speed. 2. These boats are meant to plane bow high, trying to trim the bow down is detrimental to handling on plane....

Re: I Found an Oil Spot on the Ground? What The??
Around here we have to buy 91 octane to be sure of no ethanol(alcohol). My boat runs better on high octane fuel from a regular gas station than from what you get on the gas dock or any marked fuel even marked premium. Regular 87 has the most ethanol and goes stale in months. I just bought a new smal...

Re: Do I really need a backstay on an X?
My answer is Yes you do. The Shrouds on an :macx: are not far enough aft to support the mast properly when running down wind, therefore you need a backstay for downwind sailing. That's my opinion based on my understanding of how the rig works. To follow through with your plan you could get some engi...

Re: another, prob dumb, prop question Honda 50
A note about my props: The ones that came with the Whipsyjac (1996 fairly stock :macx: ) aren't worth discussing at about 50% slip. I'm running a 1996 Mercury 50hp 4-stroke ELPT carburated motor NOT BIGFOOT (1.83:1gears) with a recommended WOT rpm range of between 5500 and 6000 The michigan wheel Vo...

Re: The trouble with dry docking no electricity
In your original post you asked about the switch. With a perko style switch you have 1 ,2, both, and off. The batteries are independent on 1, 2, and off. If a battery is not selected it is not charging. If they are combined "both" the weaker or damaged battery will pull your good battery d...

Another Lesson Learned
Ahoy Sailors, These last couple years I have been off the water almost as much as I've been off line. In 2014 we made 3 long weekend cruises for about 300nm total. In 2015 a day sail and a single overnighter for 85 or so NM. I did in that time find a prop which helped me over 15kts with my Merc 50. ...
