Re: First Sail, First Question - I believe regarding helm
Just gotta say Judy B's advice on this as well as so many other things is one of the reasons I come to this board: expert, experienced, helpful. I too have a lotta 'weather helm' on my elderly M25; I do think some of it has been from the rudder, some from the mast rake, and most of it from overtrimm...

Mac 'bump' and silicone
I know there're other posts about this, so mods delete and/or move this if you see fit. Just a quick note to say that after getting the bottom painted on our elderly M25 we noted as others have that the Mac 'bump' no longer worked, eliciting weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and necessitati...

Charleston Harbor
Just a quick note to all you fine folks in the forum about a wonderful destination, I'm sure many of you all ready have been there. My family of 6 plus 3 others (grandmother and 2 girlfriends of my adult sons) trailered our ancient M25 from KY to Charleston SC harbor, tied up at the Charleston Harbo...

Re: Sail setup in higher winds
Just wanted to let y'all know my son and I went out, had a very nice, energetic sail, under reefed main and jenny let out to probably 2/3 of standard working jib size. Wore our pfd's, stayed warm, had a great time. Thanks all for the interest and advice.

Wind Chime:
I didn't see your excellent points until after I'd posted my first thanks; nice list of 'to-do's'! I don't have a lot of those options on my boat, but will try to flatten the main as much as possible, and will definitely be wearing PFD's!

Re: Sail setup in higher winds
Thanks much for the helpful advices! Confirms what I thought I'd do: reefed main with just a bit of jib.

Sail setup in higher winds
Hello all I may be on a lake tomorrow in my elderly Mac25. Winds are predicted 14-25 mph, weather clear. I have a 150 jenny on roller furling, and a standard mainsail with a single set of reefpoints. Other than 'idiot why are you trying to sail in such winds', any advice on what setup to use, e.g.: ...

Re: Request for destination recommendation
Wasp18: Used to spend summers in Maine (Bethel/Bryant Pond area) when I was a lad. Spent many hours lake-sailing our family's O'Day Widgeon (12 1/2' sloop-rigged dinghy) single-handed, hiking out and watching for the cat's-paws heralding the next gust. Wonderful state with many beautiful areas. A li...

Re: Request for destination recommendation
Scott Thanks for the tip! We actually bought our elderly Mac when it was sitting in the lot of a marina in Sandusky, and first sailed it on Lake Erie. If we end up sailing in the Summer rather than late Spring I will definitely put the Lakes on the list. Sandusky is actually only ~ 5 hours from us, ...

Request for destination recommendation
Hello all. I posted this on the Old MacGregor/Venture forum, got one very helpful response, but I thought I'd try here also. I have an elderly M25, looking to take a trailer-sail this Spring or Summer, hoping for some recommendations. Timing: most likely mid-late 5/14, but could be as late as mid-8/...

Request for destination recommendation
Hello all. I have an elderly M25, looking to take a trailer-sail this Spring or Summer, hoping for some recommendations. Timing: most likely mid-late 5/14, but could be as late as mid-8/14; Duration: 1 wk with the w/e on either end; Location: anywhere on Atlantic coast from Boston to Daytona Beach; ...

Re: Mac 25 Rub rail insert
Well as it happens the Quartermaster managed to get the existing rub rail substantially cleaned up with a combination of mineral spirits, baby oil, wire brush, and elbow grease

Re: Mac 25 Rub rail insert
Old thread, I know, but I too have rub rail prob's (primarily that the PO slathered white paint on the hull and deck and didn't seem to care when it got on the BLACK rub rail! @#$%). I've contacted WEFCO and they have that same part # available, so the question for jsbetty is: did it fit? Any issues...

Re: Ugly windows
Thanks to everyone here for many advices. Just thought I 'd update on the 'ugly windows': the Quartermaster and I got smoked ones from BWY, put them on with some silicone sealant after removing the uglies and stripping all the old goo off. Also the Quartermaster scraped off the old paint the p.o. ha...
