Re: What constitutes a Bahamas Weather Window?

All VERY good recommendations from Chinook! I'd add that taking a "shakedown cruise" before heading for the Bahamas would be a good idea. Get the boat set up as close to "Bahamas ready" as you can and then take it out for a couple of days with your full crew. See how things work ...

Re: Bahamas 2025 Planning

Starscream, Regarding item 10 on your list: make sure you have all of your non-starting batteries and the dc-dc converter protected by appropriate fuses as close to the source as possible (ABYC says 7" in most installs). Your 100A Li battery can put out 3000 amps in a short circuit condition. T...

That sounds like a great setup for a preventer. I've just added it to my ever-increasing list of mods.

Re: Suzuki DF50 - has anyone replaced the trim relay?

Again, recalling the 2012 post that this one is "piggy-backing", it mentioned that the blue and green wires were of particular interest. Jimmy's picture clearly shows a blue and a green wire in the round, white connector. If it were my engine, I'd unplug that connector and barring any obvi...

Re: Suzuki DF50 - has anyone replaced the trim relay?

OK, we have the year and the relay identified. How sure are we that the relay is the problem? I have a Honda so the mechanism may be totally different, but as I recall the tilt/trim mechanism is driven by a hydraulic ram that is powered by a DC motor. The switch(es) reverse the polarity and thus the...

Re: Suzuki DF50 - has anyone replaced the trim relay?

There is a data plate (sticker) on the right side of the engine. It should begin with DF50 or DF50A. Post of picture of that data plate please.

Re: Installing new LiFePo4 200ah battery

You know what they say about great minds... I pulled 4 golf cart batteries (almost identical to the T105) out of Simple Interest yesterday (around 250 pounds). I used (abused) mine a bit more and only got 8 years out of them. My new lithium batteries will arrive sometime today. The two new batteries...

Re: Ballast Valve Lube

Your ballast valve is a great application for silicone grease (sometimes called plumber's grease) since it is, in fact, a plumbing valve. I've never felt the need to lubricate it but if I did silicone grease would be my #1 choice. The active ingredient in silicone grease is usually polydimethylsilox...

Re: Boom tent...

Can y'all help me how to rig my boom tent? I rigged it up today quickly (I had to make it to a meeting) but it's not great. I suspect I need some new lines and some good clips. But where is best to attach the get the most protection? https://i.postimg.cc/23TX50bQ/IMG-2816.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/G...

Re: New MOB item

The short tether is not my idea. I'm just repeating a good idea I got from someone else. Left to my own devices I would have made it eight feet long and then drowned while being dragged alongside the boat after going overboard. Just for grins I went to YouTube to see if there was any more info on th...

Re: New MOB item

Calling back to the earlier thread, it's like a "Ray Line" with loops. I can see where that could be an improvement. I can also see how you could be dragged by your heels if you slipped similar to a runaway horse with your foot caught in the stirrup. My main take-away watching it was that ...

Re: Rudders again

Is the weather bad in Steinhatchee? Is that why you have so much time on your hands? Up here in Philly, we quite literally had snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain yesterday; some of which were at the same time. We depend on your sailing escapades. Close the computer, get out of the chair and go on...
