Re: Whitecaps At Midnight, Second Night On Our 26X

You MUST trust your anchor and tackle, if you don't, then replace it with bigger and better until you do trust it. Next, download a free anchor alarm app to your phone and tablet, test it, some are crap, others are good, you can test it on dry land just walking, when you trust it set the anchor, set...

Re: Accidental Gybe Prevention/Control - Boom Brake

I learned years ago that if I am running down wind (on my X, not sure about other models) just remove the main sheet from the console and clip it to the life line loop on the down wind safety rail. You cant gybe when it is like that and the sail shape remains good if you use a vang. See arrow in pic...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??

Wow….. could one just imagine if Australia had a cross continental canal system??? 8) 8) That would be an amazing inland cruise….. That would be a 4000klm trench, about the same as NY to LA, get your shovel out now and start digging, I'd be interested. Having driven this country many times I...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??

Pardon me for asking, but why not re-anchor with the bow facing the swell. I don't have swells on the lakes I sail in. It looks to me like you have great holding for the area. Australia doesn't have lakes, we all sail in the ocean here. The ocean has swells. a Re-anchor will do nothing to solve the...

And of course google maps took me down a rabbit hole to Rous Battery.
Close enough, Rous battery is an old WW2 gun emplacement just a few klm's from where I was.

Re: Just wanted to share

One of my favorite sailing destinations is Moreton island off Moreton Bay in Queensland, for those not familiar with my home area you can click here for a Google map location. https://maps.app.goo.gl/aZrGgpQWoEDAHJWD8 Looks awesome. Changed my mind about visiting when I tried to look it up and foun...

Re: Just wanted to share

Sunshinecoasting, It never ceases to amaze me what one can learn on this forum; thanks for sharing. Beside us learning about Moreton Island’s Big Sand Hill, we receive a zoological lesson. I had to quickly look up “Dugong”. 8) https://i.postimg.cc/ygTwTZ2d/IMG-5891.jpg That water looks beautiful. W...

Russ wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 6:20 am Nice work.

How do you switch between steaming light and deck light?
If you zoom in on the first photo and look closely at the bottom of the mast you will see a toggle switch, up is for mast head light, down is for flood light or steaming light.

Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??

I was reading a sailing magazine while away on the boat a couple of weeks ago, as usual I was being pushed sideways to the swell at anchor by a stiff breeze which meant the boat was rolling around as it always does, the water was too deep to run out a second stern anchor (which I usually do) to hold...

Anchoring deck light

A while back I had a serious middle of the night mishap with an anchor drag and got my dinghy tow rope tangled around a buoy, anchor alarm went off and I was being pushed sideways in a 4 knot current, boat was on a 15degree list, middle of the night and pitch black, long story short I managed to unt...

Re: Portland Oregon area members?

Hi All, I'm in Queensland Australia and bought my 26X from McCuddy's Marina on the Columbia river way back in 2013. I'm just wondering if anyone knows my boat or the previous owner(s) from back then? They may be interested to know I exported it to tropical Queensland Australia and it now enjoys 365 ...

How many times do you have to get hit to realise that grounding is what's causing it, DO NOT ground your mast under any circumstances.

Re: Sound baffling for the motor

I have a 2000 model Nissan 50 2 stroke and although it is noisier than I want it to be I just don't get the noise that you guys are getting? At 5-6knots I can still easily have a civil conversation from the captains seat, maybe the BF50 is just a loud motor?? I dunno, I'm more interested in getting ...
