Re: Request tech and electronics
Actually, this post has got me wondering....... Do you not have to HAVE an EPIRB in USA waters? By law in Australia all vessels greater than 7.5 meters MUST carry a registered and in date EPIRB when travelling more than 2nm from land, so everyone here has one. https://www.amsa.gov.au/safety-navigati...

Re: Request tech and electronics
Timer on an EPIRB? Sounds expensive if you forget you set it. Do you have any idea what the cost of recovery is if an EPIRB is activated? Especially a false activation. Besides, if you are three days from your EPIRB how would they know where to look? If you were two minutes from your EPIRB but too s...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??
Thanks Overeasy, that may very well be it, I'm not sure how they would smell it as Lake Eyre is in the middle of a desert 400 klm's from the nearest sea water but maybe they do? I recently studied microbiology at uni and learned a lot about microbial odour, I even discovered that the smell of the ea...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??
The darker green patch just right of centre is known as the Lake ayre basin, much of it is 15 meters below sea level so that would flood I presume, the rest is above sea level. It is normally a dry salt pan but does flood occasionally. 2 days after it floods it has pelicans sitting on it by the thou...

Macgregor Yacht corporation
Does anyone know (and yes I'm looking at you Kevin) how to contact Roger Macgregor or someone that may still exist in his executive team? Their web site is long gone, this relates to manufacture of parts for his boats (after market and replacement).
Thanks in advance.
Dennis.

Re: Curtains in time for Christmas heat
Will do, I am particularly interested in the two front one's as it can get pretty hot laying in bed after about 7am here due to sun ingress, I expect them to be very good, maybe not the prettiest solution but functional.

Curtains in time for Christmas heat
I'm spending two weeks on the boat from Boxing day and it is sooo hot here at the moment. 10 Years I have owned this boat and have never been satisfied with any window coverings I have seen other people do yet. I finally came up with the perfect solution (for me) and thought I would share. I didn't ...

Re: Whitecaps At Midnight, Second Night On Our 26X
You MUST trust your anchor and tackle, if you don't, then replace it with bigger and better until you do trust it. Next, download a free anchor alarm app to your phone and tablet, test it, some are crap, others are good, you can test it on dry land just walking, when you trust it set the anchor, set...

Re: Accidental Gybe Prevention/Control - Boom Brake
I learned years ago that if I am running down wind (on my X, not sure about other models) just remove the main sheet from the console and clip it to the life line loop on the down wind safety rail. You cant gybe when it is like that and the sail shape remains good if you use a vang. See arrow in pic...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??
Wow….. could one just imagine if Australia had a cross continental canal system??? 8) 8) That would be an amazing inland cruise….. That would be a 4000klm trench, about the same as NY to LA, get your shovel out now and start digging, I'd be interested. Having driven this country many times I...

Re: Why didnt I know this 10 years ago??
Pardon me for asking, but why not re-anchor with the bow facing the swell. I don't have swells on the lakes I sail in. It looks to me like you have great holding for the area. Australia doesn't have lakes, we all sail in the ocean here. The ocean has swells. a Re-anchor will do nothing to solve the...
