Re: Brand new mac owner
Yes, but the MacGregor marketing department definitely got ahead of the Macgregor engineering department some days. From the 26x brochure: "Here are your sailing choices: ( 1 ) With water ballast tank full and conservative sails, the 26 is an extremely stable sailboat, ideal for a beginner. ( 2...

Re: Repowering with smaller engine options
With the Suzuki DF60AV, my 2002 26x gets about 15.5 knots with the ballast in, 17.3 with no ballast. I would not say the boat is lightly loaded.
The Suzuki 20 gets 11 knots WOT with no ballast. That is with a "just painted" hull.

Re: Repowering with smaller engine options
After years of contemplating making the change, I put the Suzuki 60 and Suzuki 6 in storage and installed a Suzuki DF20ATL5 and a Suzuki 9.9 in their place. Note that the 9.9 is a "de-tuned" version of the 20, it weighs about 12 lbs less. As shown in the video, the 20 has remote tilt. The ...

Re: Solar panels on a 26X
All of the panels attached to the rails are traditional fixed panels, not flexible. Only the panel that sits on top of the bimini is a flexible panel.

Solar panels on a 26X
As requested, here's more information about the solar panel setup on my 2002 26X. There are actually three sets of panels. 1. Two 175w panels mounted on the stern rails. 2. Two 100w panels mounted over the dodger. 3. One 200w Renogy "solar blanket" lying on top of the bimini. https://www.r...

Permanently removing the helm seat, 26X
I have a 2002 26x. I previously cut the helm seat in half horizontally and added a piano hinge so I can fold up the seat to facilitate standing in the lower well while docking and to generally just create more room in the cockpit at anchor. (This was a modification I discovered a decade ago on the s...

Re: Crazy idea for backup motor
Just going to come back and reiterate or restate something I said earlier on this thread. There are folks who have internal gasoline tanks in their 26x, including one or more moderators of this forum. I assume they all have ignition protected bilge blowers. Probably they also installed a gasoline fu...

Re: Crazy idea for backup motor
I have a 2002 26X. I sometimes run all of the gasoline out of my Honda EU 2200i generator and store it in the cargo area (aka "aft berth"). I have a Newport NT300 outboard for the dingy. I always hang it in the head. I installed a dowel across the top of the head enclosure and just hang th...

Re: Good boat repair connections - Seattle area
I'm not familiar with how the 25 is set up. But I can tell you that when I moved to saltwater (out of Lake Washington and into the Sound) and started sailing my 26x more aggressively (testing the limits of heeling, 4-6 ft waves, etc), the boat started collecting water in the bilge. I suspected my ke...

Re: Curtains for 26X?
I previously purchased flexible blackout screens with suction cups that attached to the windows that fit perfectly on the windows of the 26x. All seven screens fold up and fit into a storage bag about 12 inches in diameter and 3 inches thick. I've had these about 10 years and they still work well. I...

Re: Lack of Trust in my Outboard Motor
It is not particularly difficult to add an auxiliary motor mount to the stern of a 26x. I've done it twice. Tahoe Jack provided an excellent description of the basic installation. I copied his method about 10 years ago and it worked very well. (See the photo of the boat in the hoist / travel lift.) ...

Re: So that escalated quickly
Works totally fine mounted on the mast. The dome and mount combined weigh only about 20 lb. combined. I remove it from the mount for raising and lowering the mast, just four bolts. It's about 7 ft off the deck, easy to reach. The tricky part was running the thick power cable through the headliner. M...
