Re: 12 volt electric heat
I think you'll find the reviews from people who have owned 12 volt heaters are generally not great. Also, at 600 watts (50 amps DC), a 100 amp hour lead acid battery will provide an hour of heat, maximum, under perfect circumstances with a fully charged battery. A 100 amp hour LifePo4 battery will p...

Re: Swapped my 50HP 2-srtoke for a 30HP 4-stroke
I'm not necessarily trying to endorse any particular brand of outboard motor. This is a Suzuki DF9.9BEL5. Unexpectedly quiet at 6 knots, high displacement (it's essentially a detuned 20, same footprint), 12 amp alternator, electric start. The only brand of 9.9 outboard I'm aware of that calls itself...

Re: Running trolling motion from starter terminals
I have a 55 lb Newport vessels trolling motor that I use for my dingy. It will not move my 26x against a tidal current of one knot.
A 86 lb trolling motor is the equivalent of approximately 1.5 horsepower. It will require a 24 volt battery or battery bank.

Re: Installing a new rub rail on a 26X
The rub rail is basically a big elastic band. The adhesive doesn't really hold it in place, the adhesive is there just for backup. Instead, the rub rail is held tightly against the side of the boat by the constrictive force of the elastic band. It has to be stretched tightly and then the ends screwe...

Re: Alternate ways to empty the ballast tank?
I recently emptied the ballast tank for my 2002 26X through the hole under the v-berth using a couple of pieces of hose and a 3 gallon per minute 12 volt pump. This is the third or fourth time I have done this. It took about 75 minutes. (The ballast holds about 170 gallons of water.) I drained the w...

Installing a new rub rail on a 26X
Changing the rub rail on my 2002 26X. It was not difficult, but it was time consuming. I did it by myself and it took 10 to 12 hours (five or six hours per day over 2 days). 1. I bought the kit from Blue Water Yachts which contained 50 feet of rub rail, two end caps for the stern, three tubes of 3M ...

Re: Foam flooring down below
Please report back with your techniques for keeping the foam/teak flooring clean. I have this in my boat and use a brush with deck cleaner or a brush with Dawn, either of which works ok. I have also instituted a little policy of everyone removing their shoes before they enter the cabin, although obv...

Re: Furler/Anchor Shank close neighbors
The radar outputs as an overlay on the screen of the multifunction display (MFD) at the helm. I'm actually ambivalent about radar. On those occasions when I've actually genuinely needed it, truly depended upon it, I probably should not have been underway. There was one occasion, even with radar, whe...

Re: Furler/Anchor Shank close neighbors
I have a 35 lb Mantus M1 and a CDI FF2 on a 2002 26X. When I encountered the issue you're describing, I added a one and on-half inch twisted shackle between the tang and the furler. Before doing this, I had a very helpful telephone consultation with Todd at Blue Water Yachts concerning whether this ...

Re: Air Conditioner Portable
In conjunction with the post from NiceAft above, suggest folks consider the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE 5000 btu unit or similar item specifically with mechanical (not digital) controls. https://www.google.com/search?q=Frigidaire+FFRA051WAE 1. It draws only 450 watts and will thus run on the Honda EU2000i...

Re: How would you prepare for coastal sailing?
Most areas have cruising guides. These are traditionally oversized books, often spiral bound, often updated annually, often with online supplements or with copies available entirely online, that provide detailed information about specific cruising areas, such as the the phone number and address of v...

Re: Adding LiON to existing system
Pretty sure you would prefer lifepo4 batteries, not LiON, as LiON batteries are generally more expensive, have a shorter lifespan and are more prone to fire. Lifepo4 are safer, cheaper and last longer. Verify your solar charger is MPPT, not PWM. Otherwise, your proposed setup should work fine. (I ha...
