I was in the boat show in Barcelona (Spainà last week. The same builders of the Odin were presenting a new boat, almost identical. I have to look at the papres to find out the name. Price: 25,000 € + motor. And in France they are launcing a 28' which on paper seems to be quite nice: I think t will be...

I had the same problem before summer; I tried to solve it by greasing the steering, but it didn't have too much of an effect. Untill one day, when going out sailing, it broke. We were without steering during a tack, with the rudder hard backboard, the motor up and the sails fool of wind. I run to fr...

I agree completely with you; safety is perhaps the most important item on a boat, and everyone should have to be trained, at least in the basics of man overboard (both sail & motor), radio usage, and also know where everything is being kept. I also have always with me a multitool in the pocket, ...

I had to change mine last June, because the original luff broke. I had to order a full CDI, as the Mac distributor in The Netherlands (where we keep our Culzean) does not sell spare pieces. :( It was very easy to install; the only thing you must be sure is the lenght you have to cut in the luff, as ...

A big difference with the Mac, though: it is a B CE marked boat, so it can stand waves up to 4 meters (12 feet) and winds up to 8B (35 knots). I have not seen it in a show, but I guess it will be quite more robust.... :o

Re: Keels

Sorry, I didn't mention all the list (about 65 new boats and 76 models which are no longer in production (between them, the 26X)). They go from 20 foot (dayboats) to 28 - 29 foot. And some of them are "deriveurs integrales"; so retractable keel. My real curiosity was in the submersible cla...

I think that it will also exist in the US, I don't know the exact name in English, but I have seen it quite a lot in harbours in the Mediterranean. There is a kind of cheminee or high tent that occupies just the forward hatch space, and that you hang using the jib halyard. It covers all your requisi...

insubmersibility classification

The other day I was reading an article in an extra number of "Voiles et Voiliers" a French sailing magazine (Hors-sie n 31). This extra is called (kind of literal translation from French) "Small sailboats, nice cruises", en it reviews the advantages of small sailboats, confort...

I have a 99 26X, and to raise the main, I have to do it also standing in front of the mast (neither the first owner nor I set the main to be raised from the cockpit: one of the mods that goes in my head to do this next winter). In my case, I have a cleat in every side of the mast to fix the halyards...

[quote="Dimitri-2000X-Tampa"]Miquel, 2 sets of twins? No, just second mariage. I had 2 (boy & girl), and she the same. And the differences are really tight: 4 days for the girls, 3 months for the boys. And 3 of them love sailing: one of the boys love motors. So again, Mac is a r...

Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences. I don't know the age of your children; in my case it's 2 girls of 15 and 2 boys of 11. Before crossing to Corsica this summer (40 NM, and at some point of time you are at 16 NM of the nearest land), we practiced man over board exercises under motor and sail...

The truth is that I have great memories of the trip, and I'm very happy of having done it, and having taken the decisions we took. And I am quite confident on the Mac, when ballasted (my sailing experience, before having the Mac, was with 36 to 42 foot sailboats), and I have learned the hard way tha...

Our summer holiday trip

We have just returned from our holiday trip: this year it was Corsica. Of course, with our Mac 26X, Culzean (I was in the past a member of this site, but my name and password work no longer, so I have registered as a new member). And this year, it has really been an experience. It has begun with the...
