Re: Dual Small Gas Tanks?
We use a shaker siphon from Amazon to transfer fuel in our boat or dinghy. I got really good at siphoning gas during the gas crisis in the 70's. I kept my motor cycle and 4 of my friends in gas for a year and never went to a gas station. I had some really exciting adventures, like hiding under a car...

Re: Jacking boat off trailer bunks
We used concrete blocks and old 6 X 6's, 4 X 6 and 4 X 4's. The top one is a shaped 4 X 4 that fits the curve of the hull. The short one is for the bow end of the hull. We have sanded and painted the anti foul twice using these forms. The great thing is they cost nothing as they were left over from ...

Re: Trailer, Strap, and Cabin Access
You know we have never thought about tying our Mac down while trailering. In Fact we have pulled it from Florida to New York twice and never thought about tying it down. We are trailering to New York again this summer (26) and we will I think use a tie down strap. Another item we do not have on the ...

26M north of Georgetown Bahamas
We have a Canadian friend who is just north of Georgetown Bahamas in his 27 ft Ranger Tug. Sent the pic below of a 26M mac owner from Thunder Bay Ontario. He trailered down to Miami, launched the Mac, crossed to Bimini Bahamas and is now a days travel above Georgetown. My friend said this is the 3rd...

Re: Trawler / Mactrawler
This is a pic of how we keep the water from flowing into the cockpit port seat from the cabin top. It is simple but it works except in 20 mph winds and a downpour at the same time. Just a caulk dam. We remove and recaulk every 3 years. We haven't needed to make the dam any wider. Hope this helps. ht...

Re: Trawler / Mactrawler
Yes we put a large bead of caulk across that area which forces the water to drain off the cabin top about 8 inches forward from the caulk. Will post a pic tomorrow.

Practical Sailor just dropped a great vid on the Mac
Practical sailor just put up a new video on the Mac on their YouTube channel. It was done by the guy from Lady K sailing who works PS's YouTube staff. It will help your value of your boat. I loved it and lots of folks are leaving comments including me.

Re: Trawler / Mactrawler
RSV... here is a pic of our Mac we put in trawler mode the month after we bought it in 2016. Because of disabilities we wanted a small boat to do the Great Loop and sailing was not an option for us. Every mod we have made to the boat if changed would only leave a few screw holes and it can be conver...

Re: Investing in paint for my ‘98X
Hershel that paint job looks nice. We did a complete rewire on our boat and found a bucket full of wire that went no where. We were unable to rewire the running lights, the red, green and the rear white light. Never figured out where the wires ran except it is behind the interior liner somewhere. Th...

Need new steering!
We need to update our steering. We have a Ultra Flex T71FC at this time. It still works but the plastic covering near the motor is cracked. Also in 2017 we were on a trip on the St. Johns River in Florida and it went from ok to so hard to turn my wife could not turn the wheel in one day. So we order...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp
I use one of the dip stick oil suction devices to change oil while the boat is in the water. Use a lot of paper towels under the filter when you remove it to avoid a oil stain on the water. The gear oil is best changed with the boat on a trailer or in a marina where you can get the boat lifted by a ...

Re: Fastest Great Loop Completed!
OverEasy there are numerous people doing the loop in segments. I know several people doing segments of 2 weeks to 3 months at a time. Several use Sea Dory 23 or 25 foot, one starting next year just bought a Sea Dory Tom cat. That is a 25 foot sea dory power cat. Also several use Rosborough 246’s the...

Re: Fastest Great Loop Completed!
Most people spend a year doing the great loop because you spend the winter in Florida so the average for traveling loop without staying three months in Florida is about nine months. We are still members of the American great Loop cruisers association, so we heard about this guy‘s journey. The great ...

Re: How long have you owned a Macgregor?
2015 bought a 2003 26X. We bought it to do the great loop, using it as a trawler not a sailboat. We did the loop twice in the Jill Kristy, did the St. John’s river in Florida did two other trips on the canals in Canada. We have actually spent over two years on our boat since 2015.Hope to use it agai...
