Re: Mast Crutch Removable or Permanent?
Ok thanks, when I picked the boat up it wasn't on the crutch. Thought maybe it was meant to seat the mast deeper in the crutch. After I put it on, it didn't look like it needed to be removed to safely secure the mast.

Mast Crutch Removable or Permanent?
I noticed in the manual that the rear mast crutch on the steering column states its removable. Mine is bolted inside the steering pedestal. I remember reading somewhere about some being permanent, but of course can't find the posts. Is their any pros or cons to removable vs non removable? I think it...

Re: New steering cable length
Its actually 8ft not 3 sorry lol. How tight was your 11ft cable? I can't find any pics or videos of someone doing the replacement. This cable just seems really short to make the bends needed.

New steering cable length
Just ordered the upgraded rack and pinion steering for my 2000 26x. BWY said the package was everything I needed to replace my frozen steering. I havent removed the old cable yet, but this new cable looks way to small. I get limited time to go work on the boat so I don't want to habe an issue when I...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
My Merc tell tale runs warm on the muffs but cold when actually in the water, I presume we are just not putting enough water in when using the muffs to keep it cold, anyway when running on the muffs we want the thermostat to open so we can give the whole thing a good flush out. Glad to see you got ...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
Pulled and cleaned the carbs. They weren't the worst I have seen but the jets were definitely all clogged. After Reassembling the engine runs a bit rough but does start and run at idle. Gonna replace the spark plugs and run a can of seafoam through. Both the air intake and mixed with gas. I greased ...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
Tried starting it up today without the lower unit on. With the motor in neutral it turns over no problem but will not start. I pushed the throttle advance button and put the throttle up. Motor starts almost instantly. I backed the throttle down to about where I think it should idle (by sound) and it...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
I have installed many impellers in smaller outboards. Hopefully I haven't always been doing it backwards lol. I just don't think i'm explaining it well. The impeller blades were bent towards the direction of rotation. Here is a picture of the original impeller. https://s9.postimg.org/xeiqd3mgf/20170...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
The original impeller was installed as if the drive shaft turned counter clockwise when looking from the top. I had never seen a ccw driveshaft so I checked online and couldnt find anyone with one. The manual states clockwise and I even ran the inspection camera up the foot to make sure the motor ra...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
Thanks for all the suggestions. Sprayed some mystery oil in the cylinders and turned it over a few times with the spark plugs out. Then put quite a bit in the cylinders and left the motor up for it to sit. I inspected the cylinder walls and they all looked decent. Only thing I noticed was some black...

Re: Mercury 50hp wont turn over
The drive shaft in the lower units turns easily until I put the impeller on. With the impeller in place it can be rotated but its really hard. I figured I have several issues. I bought the boat assuming the motor was a loss. It looks brand new though, still has clean grease on all the linkages etc. ...

Mercury 50hp wont turn over
We recently bought a 2000 Macgregor 26x. The boat had been sitting in covered storage for at least the past 8 years. Today I worked on trying to get the engine to start and ran into some issues. Changed all the oil and put in a new impeller to be safe. When I try to start the boat it will not turn o...

Re: Questions on Rudder Weight etc.
The rudder swings freely out of the water. What I find is it is just very boyant. Where the rope is attached really doesn't give you the ability to pull it down. Gonna have to take a picture of it tomorrow. Maybe the rope should be attached diffrently. I'll def try drilling a hole in it. Can't hurt ...
