Re: The Admiral Wants Heat

Sanded, skimmed, and primed the hatch sealing surface. I have a 3/8” thick hatch gasket for it, so the fit can be a little off - but not much. As soon as the primer cures, I’ll pop it on the hatch opening and see how it fits. I have to do that anyway to get the black/white border marked off to match...

Re: A $10 fix to prevent another $1,000 mistake

A dagger board would be a pretty good project. I like the way he did his rudders using the wood stringers with plywood bent over them. However, our rudders and dagger have to take on water, so that would necessitate water proofing the insides of whatever you built. It can be done, but something to t...

Re: New MOB item

It was interesting to hear the video mention keeping your tether short enough to prevent you from going overboard (right out of Bill’s playbook).

Re: The Admiral Wants Heat

Today was a lot of sanding, skimming, and repeating. The top of the hatch is satisfactory minus some detailing around the duct and 2x4 supports. I’ll try to get the bottom surface to primer tomorrow. https://i.postimg.cc/KkXz9wQc/IMG-3210.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/H8dLmMff/IMG-3211.jpg https://i.post...

Re: The Admiral Wants Heat

Got the bottom and top of the hatch glassed. Working on the edge band now. I’ve got one edge done. This is going to be tedious, as I have to keep tinkering with it until it gels to keep the cloth from pulling up at the corners. I should have radiused the top edge. That would have just left me the bo...

Never heard of a fully ballasted Mac capsizing.

You are correct (of course) - that turn was a gybe.

Re: 26x Calm wind sailing technique survey.

Leave your main and the jib alone until the wind hits the main from the back side (the jib will already be catching the wind on the "wrong side"). Quickly release the upwind jib sheet, center the rudders, When things are light, and I’m having difficulty tacking, I backwind the jib (Genoa)...

Re: 26x Calm wind sailing technique survey.

A 26M tacking slow in light air, under main alone. Amazing how nimble it seems without an outboard and 12+ gallons of gas. I’m sure the X would behave similarly.

Ignore the roller reefing antics for the purposes of this thread.

Re: The Admiral Wants Heat

Sanded the primer with 320 grit and spritzed on some white. Going to let that settle a few days before I put the black stripe on. While I’m waiting, I’m working on the hatch piece and the machine deck. This morning, I conned the Admiral into helping me epoxy all of the hatch pieces together. The ply...

Thanks! I don’t have a feel for the assembly yet, but it won’t be a one-hander. I can easily lift the hood piece with one hand - if I have that hand at the balance point. I’m thinking some strategically placed handles will be required.

Re: The Admiral Wants Heat

Got the hood piece glassed, skimmed, and sanded. Shot a coat of primer on it so I can see the spots that need additional work. I know the rear panel will need some attention. I ran out of glass cloth and used some that had been folded…. Not too smart. Otherwise, I’m pleased with how it’s looking. ht...
