Re: Another Heads Up!
Boat, That is a sweet pic of the rock jetty at sunset! I'm into photography as a hobby too. I don't have enough experience or confidence to sail her into the marina. If my motor is out I'm calling the tow truck!

Another Heads Up!
The "2 minutes too late" thread inspired me to post about something similar that I did. Me and a friend were at Catalina. He was snorkeling and spearfishing and I was kind of motoring around near him and turning motor off for a little while and drifting then I would fire motor back up to g...

Re: Dana Point to Catalina
Thanks Boat! I've heard afternoon returns are not recommended because swells and weather can get sketchy. Any truth to this? Thanks.

Dana Point to Catalina
Hi guys. I'm planning my next trip to Catalina. I have reserved a guest slip in Dana Point over Labor Day weekend and I am hoping to go over to Avalon on Monday (Labor Day) and stay for a couple days. I will watch the weather and have no problem calling it off if it looks sketchy. I have a couple qu...

Re: Southern California in Fall and Winter?
I'm from St. George, Utah. It's about a 7 hour drive to Oceanside not towing a trailer. We love Hello Betty! My plan this fall is to take around 10-12 days and start in Ventura or Long beach spend a couple days there then to catalina for 2-3 days then to either Newport or Dana Point for a day or two...

Re: Southern California in Fall and Winter?
BOAT. Yes open ocean is what I'm after for tuna fishing and sailing. Good info thanks. I love Oceanside for vacation with my kids. We usually stay at that Marriott that is right by the pier.

Re: Southern California in Fall and Winter?
Thanks You BOAT. So Oceanside is sketchy? I was hoping to maybe stay there a couple days in a guest slip if the fishing is really good like it was last year. In sept of last year we chartered a fishing boat with crew in San Diego and instead of heading to Mexico like they always do we headed straigh...

Southern California in Fall and Winter?
I hope to do alot of sailing in Southern California this Fall and Winter. I bought Fagan's book that had alot of good info in it but wanted to hear from some of you all who live there and sail there often. The internet and Fagan's book make the Santa Ana winds seem pretty scary. How often do the act...

Re: Cost for oil change?
To answer previous question. Dealer said oil change at 20 hrs and then every year after that. They charge $110 and hour which is alot but I'm OK with. I looked over bill and it looks like just oil change. I just can't see it taking over an hour for and oil change on an outboard.

Cost for oil change?
I have a brand new 60HP mercury outboard on my 26m. When I took it into dealer for 1st 20 hour oil change they charged me over $250!!!!!!! This seemed outrageous to me. I know I can do it myself but for warranty reasons I wanted them to do it since they installed the motor. Is this highway robbery o...

Re: Lightning
I would love to hear from someone who has been struck or their boat has been struck in marina or something. I asked one of the lake park rangers here in Utah and he had never seen any boat ever get struck in 10-15 years. These are mostly power boats with no mast. I'm deathly afraid of lightning but ...

Re: Gas Can Question
Guys thanks for info. They are gas tanks not cans. I could not budge what I now know is the vent with my bare hands. Will try to loosen with pliers.

Gas Can Question
On my recent trip to Catalina as we were motoring across to Long Beach the motor died. I opened the gas can to make sure gas was good and there was a big sucking sound like tank is in a vacuum. We had plenty of gas so after releasing vacuum motor started right up and went fine for another 20-30 minu...
