Re: Tight foresail and mast angle..

......... Then again, I could just enjoy the fact I sailed 3 days a straight on an Arkansas lake with 15-35 mph winds.. And quit fretting over it. The blown main is probably costing me 15-20% efficiency. Gotta sell a house before I replace.. IF I bother. Sometimes I think cutting teeth on a Hobie wa...

Re: Tight foresail and mast angle..

It was a 150 Genoa, 1/2 out at the time. She just popped the cleat whilst we were docked in 0 wind. Perhaps I didn't paint a good pic there. Angle is by the book. And maybe it is normal. I was in 20-30mph winds that day and stayed around 7 mph. Hit 8.5 on one reach..with a poorly reefed b!lown main ...

Tight foresail and mast angle..

So I happened to be beside the boat and had the wife release a tight jib..and saw the mast drop back several degrees. This made me very unhappy! My backstay cannot tighten any further..it seemed the mast itself was flexing forward.. K..but that screws up my CE and increases weather helm.. Anyone els...

Can a loose ballast plug dump this much inside?

First water in bilge since owning her 6 weeks. First sail with some pitching on the lake. 23 mph wind, lots of heel, some pitch. Seems I took in 20 gallons of water..the plug to the ballast air hole was loose fitting and it was wet around the cap in the cupped area around it. Anyone taken on water w...

Re: What gives!?! Sailing 911!

Tomfoolery, what do you mean by "blown?" Can't see the sail having stretched.. They are likely original to the boat but appear in decent shape. I do admit, compared to the tight main on cats I used to sail, she has a lot of belly even when pulled tight... Can modern sail fabric actually st...

What gives!?! Sailing 911!

First good wind sail on my new to me 01 26x.. Had her in the water a few weeks. Decided to put it all out.. 150 Gen and main all out and up. Board down, ballast in, rudders down.. She floundered around, pushed sideways, gained momentum, then would round up with little heel...no control. Wind was 15-...
