Re: Farewell, tight lines.
Hi Dennis. Thanks for your update, except I’m feeling for you. I’m a couple years behind you with perhaps similar issues. Your location on the Sunshine Coast sure sounds nice as we are coming out of another long winter here in Ontario (Canada). Hopefully your new owner will join this site. If you ha...

Re: Dockline practicality - where is your bitter end?
We maintain a full set of dock lines on both sides, even when just messing around locally. That’s where our lines live. And the cleatergreeter gets used regularly. It’s made our docking simpler.

‘Cleatergreeter’ for docking easy
We use what we call the cleatergreeter to keep our docking safe and easy. I’m certain many of you already use a similar setup. A length of dock line with loop-end, a customized length of line with a reaching pole/handle, ending in a large (managed) loop used to greet the ( dock) cleat. Here’s a samp...

Re: Dockline practicality - where is your bitter end?
We’ve a full set of dock lines attached to the cleats with the bow and can tie up on either side at any time using the bitter end. Especially where we often splash, it’s launch on port side and retrieve from starboard. Lines needed either side. https://i.postimg.cc/dLJCyqss/IMG-4122.jpg I frequently...

Yes Dave R. That’s standard. Here’s pic of my ‘boater buddy Bob’s ‘ 2004 M https://i.postimg.cc/HJTMfq6M/IMG-8116.png Zoom in a bit. It’s similar to your pic. For comparison our 1999 X has thru the mast bolts to attach the stays https://i.postimg.cc/SXjS2VRh/IMG-8117.png My experience says it works ...

Congrats Dave R. you’ve a great looking boat there and will be getting to a lot of adventures. Tandem axles -nice. Keel guard - looks like there’s some possible beach-time a-coming. Double goal posts. Send pics when you get to splash.

Re: MacGregor 26M mast issue
Dave R. If you’re ever back here to Ontario and have time, connect and we’ll get you out on a Mac. Ha! I passed my motorcycle test in Aurora. A long time ago. I had a big bush beard and my wife’s Honda 70. They were all certain I had a big chopper bike at home that I didn’t want to use for the test!

Re: MacGregor 26M mast issue
Hi 2 Dave’s in Christchurch I also wondered about that mast getting bent sideways recently. It may have happened there in the yard. I suspect in that case it can readily be straightened.( because it was attached at both ends and bowed over a few feet) . And no one will fess up to it getting caught i...

Re: MacGregor 26M mast issue
1. That mast bend needs to be checked out by a stainless steel expert - such as a millwright. Best case is it’s (a gentle-that’s a relative term) over 2-3’. Looks to me as if it’s bent 8-10”. If it’s a kink with metal breakage (stretching) evident it’ll need to be cut/spliced etc. Your millwright wo...

Calling your boat ‘heaven’ isn’t a joke. It’s reality. Cause that’s what it is. It’s still a great looking stairs though.

Re: Great names for your boat 2026
I’m an oldie with a X, and last fall rescued an ‘89D from a cedar hedgerow. ( I will share that recovery story in a few months with pics of the process. ) The 26D was named: https://i.postimg.cc/sMKFQDD2/IMG-7772.jpg Dan the PO, had recovered from a motorcycle crash, and was so delighted he named he...

Re: Great names for your boat 2026
According to a local marine store manager, a boat owner at a local marina had this name on his boat: QWYBMABIITY Folks would ask about the name and he’d reply: Question, would you buy me a beer if I tell you? If You’d say yes , and he’d repeat: Question, would you buy me a beer if I tell you Eventua...

Re: Trailer, Strap, and Cabin Access
Plan to meet the highway traffic requirements. Usually it talks about keeping your trailer load secure in event of rollover. We use our 1/2” dock lines exclusively to secure the aft. I wouldn’t recommend any less robust dock lines due to breaking strength. This keeps the cockpit clear for other acce...

Our Now 80 year old Friends, have a 30’ Aloha which they purchased, thinking it would be their last sailboat. Named it ‘Finale’. And they are still sailing Lake Erie regularly. That couple also belong to our canoe club. They have paddled at least monthly (and documented) 250 consecutive months of pa...
