Re: Adding roller furling jib
Thanks for the advice! We are luckily not boatless now and will be out on the water tomorrow. Good points about a cheaper boat that you can add to later. At least around here the offering prices are $5100-$8000, none with all of the options (or at least the 2 expensive ones). Our season is coming to...

Re: Adding roller furling jib
I agree about the furling main, except when it jams. I have seen too many of those broken and a main that is stuck. Maybe the newer designs are better. Simple and easy is what I like. Our current boat does not even have a motor. Of course it is only 19 feet and I can skull it slowly if there is no h...

Re: Adding roller furling jib
That has been our impression so far of a roller furler. With a 5 year old we like to keep things easy and fun. Finding just the right boat is a challenge with our wish list! The good thing is that these options don't really seem to add much to the price of a boat when sold used. I think my wife will...

Adding roller furling jib
We are still on the hunt for a 26S and have yet to find the perfect boat with all of the items on our wish list: Electric start motor Roller furling jib Mast raising system Bimini A few questions: 1. How much better/different is life with a roller furler? We don't have one on our current boat and li...

Re: Be Careful at Mongold Launch Ramp at Detroit Lake, Orego
At least here any boat with a motor is registered as a motor boat. Those fees go to maintain ramps and other access points. Either provide access for all "motor boats" or rebate the registration fees!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Here are some pictures of the boat we are looking at this weekend. See anything special we should check into? I was not sure what those ports?/speakers? were in the cockpit. Also anyone in the Montreal area interested in helping us check it out this weekend? :) Thanks again for all the help! https:/...

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks for all of the sleuthing and advice! We are going to Montreal to look at that boat next weekend. Hopefully it will be in good shape. In the meantime we have been out on our Flying Scot. Summer in Vermont is far too short to miss any chances to sail!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks for checking! We like that it has the key items on our wish list: roller furling, electric start, mast raising system, and a bimini. Fewer boat bucks to get going hopefully.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
We found one in Canada a bit closer to us. What do you think of this one?

It seems to have the main features we are looking for.
Thanks!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
I looked into the 26x models near us but they are a bit out of our price range. They do offer more room in the cabin though.

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
Thanks! We tried to get one from Quebec but getting it across the boarder appeared to be a major undertaking. It ended up making an otherwise good boat not possible. I agree about the wrong time to look, but our season is short! We looked at the end of last year and did not come across any ones in g...

Thanks for the additional tips! We are still hunting and did see that one in CA, but it sure is a long drive from Vermont!

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
[/quote] No, but I've towed ours back and forth across the border and customs definitely scrutinizes the docs. In Canada a boat can be licensed or registered, or neither. If the boat is registered, then the registration is a title document. A license is not a title document and does not prove owners...

Re: Where to look for 26C models for sale?
I think we found a nice boat but 7 hours away in Canada. It turns out registering it in the States to get it across the border is a major hassle. We have to go there, buy it, leave it there, come back, go to the DMV, register it, get the tags, and then go back and pick up the boat. It is a 7 hour dr...
