Re: Brand new mac owner

Another issue = pull the centerboard/swingboard/whatever we call that thing up before getting too much speed. It will tend to make the boat want to turn. Rudders are supposed to be up also. In practice, I leave both down, wather in, go at a spead "faster than other sailboats" but not tryin...

And sometimes we redefine sucess.

This morning, overcast, 8mph forecast, 5:45 am, get to marina and find they changed the gate codes and had not sent them out. Gate code changes are normal at beginning of each month, but usually they send first and then change a few days in. Lake was glass, no wind, so we changed the purpose of our ...

Re: LOOS guage has ruined my calm

When playing with my mast rake, I spent a season with it just a bit too far forward. When overpowered it spun away from the wind, yes that was kind of scary the first time, however, the results are that you pop upright and if you have your rig close hauled, you are not grabbing that much air so ever...

Re: Every once and a while the stars align

Dead spot in middle of lake.......
You know.... ya, I may fall victim to that, I wonder what the physics behind that are.
I always presumed to stay away from the shore, presuming it would either be blocking, or otherwise disturbing the air.

Re: Every once and a while the stars align

Agree that waking up on the boat can be the best. My best memory = My wife and son stayed a week in a slip, I would get up and take us out while they were still sleeping. The day was spent in/out of slip and supply runs to town. Evening at went out at 8:00 PM, by 10:00 pm both fell asleep against me...

Every once and a while the stars align

I suppose many of us use the form for emotional support. It helps that others have simular struggles where some times it seems more work than the hobby is worth. I just went through a time where spending some money on new sails, rig rebuild (roller furler, track for mainsail, etc...) and putting in ...

Re: LOOS guage has ruined my calm

Looking at my 26X next to other 26 to 30 boats with fixed keels, and that I get good enough performance with a much shorter mast and smaller sail area, and can use lower windspeeds than the fixed keels.... I conclude we are much lighter and do not generate the forces the larger boats need. That also...

Re: M mast raising system on a X dimensions

My X had the origional X MRS. After seeing an M MRS, I used the same X gen-pole, mounted a wench to it, added a rope going from the top of the gen-pole to the same spot on the deck that the X MRS system used, then using the same multi-pully X pully system, attached it to the top of the gen-pole. The...

Re: 26X Cockpit Sun Shade?

Do you use it with the mast up?
How do you deal with the backstay?
Seriously considered if we need the backstay.

Re: Looking for a mast gate - early 26M

I used the plastic mastgates.com. Worked for a while, then deformed and started blocking the channel. My solution = add a sail track. Our masts were made for bolt-ropes anyway, so only partially work with slugs. https://www.tidesmarine.com/shop/track-slide-systems/sailtrack/internal-round-sailtrack/...

Re: 26X Cockpit Sun Shade?

https://oceansouth.us/product/3-bow-bimini-top-with-rocket-launcher-4ft-length/ Had to cut the poles down to minimum height, distance between backstay and boom is as long as I could get away with on my X. Not sure if a longer one could be put on an M, but, you do have to look around the thing to sail.

And I found it. Repair guys had "put it aside". I did not realize everybody doesn't have one. I highly recommend it. Thnks, close, don't see clamp. 8) https://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/3310-000.htm ? https://i.postimg.cc/645ZLMKq/Boom-Pedestal-Rig.jpg Seems up-side-down to me. Guess it ...

https://shop.bwyachts.com/product-p/3310-000.htm is in the "upgrade" parts. Still needs the sheet/rope, but is also on their site. According to https://www.harken.com/en/support/selection-tools/system-diagrams/mainsheet-systems/?srsltid=AfmBOoo3BsFqDFa0I4wtKBlrjBvVqKqHD3212VaMn7WRHvQVbVOQE...
