Sounds like you are describing my boat, I just use it that way, but mine is an X.
Like most things in life, if you did the work/enjoyment cost analysis, and the real $ cost analysis, we would never do anything.
Not a solution for you, but you are not alone.

Re: Replacing the halyard block
Grind off the bolt heads to remove.
Drill new holes inboard enough to install the way the pict shows?
I wonder if the "inside the track" holds the nuts in place?

Re: 2007 26M Forestay & CDI-FF2 Furler Adjustments
I suggest that the furler line should have a block/pully mounted to the boat that feeds the line 90% to the drum. Or at least as close as you can get it. That way the line does not have forces pulling the drum up. I used the following mounted to the pullpit. https://www.westmarine.com/harken-40mm-c...

Re: Any downside with going to the optional larger, 5/32" headstay.
I guess what I'm really asking is will the larger head stay solve a problem I've yet to have with the original sized head stay ? Do not think it solves any problem you do not yet have however.... Having trailered my rig a lot, and previous owners also trailering... lots of side forces on the forest...

Have been using the larger, no difference.
Added the ball bearing. Guess it helped, hard to tell, it just works.

Re: New Sails Adventure
Had my second sail yesterday morning. The boat reacts to the changes/puffs so well now that we stayed out for twice as long as normal in relatively strong and puffy winds. In winds my Admiral used to ask to go home, she is now saying it is the perfect trip. It is the gentleness of the changes in hee...

Re: How well do MacGregors sail compared to other 22-27 ft keelboats?
I have never sailed a keelboat, so can not compare. I can say the difference in sail quality really affects the boat. Have been out twice with my new canvas and the boat now points within 45 degrees and now has gentle responses to wind changes and puffs. I suspect because the boats are affordable th...

Re: Forestay turnbuckle safetying
The rings would be enough to keep the turnbuckle from finally backing all the way off. They seem to be enough to keep the turnbuckle from rotating at all, but I could see them being bent and allowing it. In practice, the turnbuckle seems to have enough friction to stay where it is, especially if you...

Re: New Sails Adventure
Took my boat out this morning in 15 mph winds. My lake has lots of puffs and variations in wind direction and speed. Recall I have moved my boom to above the sail slot resulting in a smaller mainsail. Looking at the overall sail area, we can stand to loose some main sail area, as the mainsail is sti...

I live very close to a hospital, near the Airport, so my power has been reliable.
Knock on wood.
Our winters tend to create ice with a lot of weight, so then we have issues.
Own a lot of kerosin heaters from the 30's

Re: New Sails Adventure
It’s not hot. That’s just a normal day in Texas… right? :D Ya, it is normal. It is also normal for a few heat deaths each summer. To get the work done I have been going out in the AM ensuring I do not try and do too much at one time, coming home about 10:00 am and having to recover for a few hours....

Re: New Sails Adventure
Updates: Installed the new track, left the mast up and it slid on just like the instructions. Somehow the length was just right. There was a presumption that trimming would be need. Glad I told them my track was a foot or two longer than i needed. Sails came in. Loft was in China. Headsail: EDIT: Lo...

Re: Mast Lighting
Update for anyone who might care. Inspecting my plug at the deck shows the wires broke there. Guess my re-rigging wiggled them just enough to break them at the plug, so my top light is OK and I do not need to drop the mast. My middle "steaming" light, I was able to strap a step ladder to t...
