26x Offshore capabilities - Newbie

I'm an inexperienced sailer and I don't want to live life on the edge...what's the boat comfortable in swell wise? There are several rigs within 10-15 miles that'd be great to go to when it's not super rough offshore but all the crap you read online it's like these boats will fall apart if they hit ...

I should mention the boat will primarily be used in saltwater so I think mild steel unless I could get it on the real cheap would be a bad call.

I live in South Texas near the coast.

So first post. I'm looking at a 1999 26x with 2 year old sails, rigging replaced 5 years ago, and a very low hour 50 hp Suzuki. I'm pretty much sold on the boat.
