Re: Shroud tension Loos Tension Gauge 300# tight

Thanks Jimmy, I forgot which pdf included that diagram and length from mast raising hole to front of rubrail in the 26M manuals. I know I have it somewhere in my collection of mac stuff. I agree that there is no substitute for an actual measurement to get the correct mast forward/aft angle. Thanks, ...

Re: Shroud tension Loos Tension Gauge 300# tight

Thanks for your information, Jimmy. I really want to avoid damaging my rig or having it come down during a windy day. In the last 4-years the furled jib on the forestay of my 26M, always had a bit of a droop to my forestay. Now, with the tensions set at 300 lbs (uppers), that droop is gone. Again, i...

Shroud tension Loos Tension Gauge 300# tight

I have read through about every Mac post on shroud tension for a 26M, and I have a new Loos Co. gauge that includes the scale for the Mac’s 5/32 shrouds. Setting the outer long shrouds at 300 lbs was quite difficult with the shroud adjustment tool provided by BWY. It is just about as difficult to ge...

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

Yes, that is the way my intake/exhaust is configured. It is the same approach used on a residential Toyostove Lazer or Monitor kerosene heaters.

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

I've heard great reports about the Wallas stove/heater. I just couldn't come up with a way of allowing the galley to continue to slide in my 26M with that system, or I might have ended up with one like yours.

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

Hi Kurz, I don't think any of the diesel/kerosene heat exchanger type heaters we are discussing in this thread are designed to mount "outside" of the cabin. They simply are not capable of handling the weather. They mount inside the cabin, and have the outside intake and exhaust for combust...

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

I am having fun trying to remember my 50 year old lessons on Boyles Law and gas partial pressures from this discussion thread. I believe I understand your point, Jimmy. Of course, in an enclosed system, the number of total moles of H2O (H2O gas phase +H2O liquid phase -lets say at sea level & 20...

This is exactly what my Wallas 1300 looks like mounted on the front bulkhead.

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

Hi NiceAft, I am not sure that any answer I can provide will supply the performance data you are looking for. The website for Wallas (a Finnish company) has a lot of technical data including efficiency data for each heater they manufacture. That would be a good place to start. Basically what I am po...

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

Hi, All Wallas heaters that I am aware of are heat exchanges, which is why I clarified that in my last post. They draw in outside air into the combustion chamber and exhaust the combustion exhaust outside just like a Monitor or Lazer residential heater. No exhaust gasses are discharged inside the ca...

Re: diesel air heater (100.--), who installed?

I installed a Wallas 1300 kerosene heater in my 26M. It only draws 0.5 amps. I think it is one of the more essential Mac improvements for summer sailing in Southeast Alaska. It is often in the low 50's in the summer (even cooler at night), and the heat exchanger design helps drive moisture out of th...

Oh well, User friendly software sounded to good to be true. My set up has a lot of circuits so I am too lazy to plot it out the way you did. Thanks, Jeff

Re: Anyone want to share their switch and circuit setups?

Did you use some dedicated software for creating this wiring schematic? It is a great presentation. My hand-drawn one is such a mess i would be embarrassed to post it. :)

Re: correct length & dia for spinnaker sheets

Thank you all for your information, and I took your advice to contact BWY. Todd pointed me to their web site, as I had missed the 110' spinnaker sheet listed under the "lines and rigging" category. It uses 1/4" dia line. It looks like that size won't bind up in my two cars I am going ...

Re: correct length & dia for spinnaker sheets

Thank you winSome, Wow, are you saying perhaps a total of 110' total, for 55' on each side, and possibly more? I see the windward slack-line would need to go the full width of the sail and then back to the rear track and cars. So I knew it would be a long one. Quarter inch dia...Would that be the sa...
