Re: Settee cushions for MacGregor 25

Hi FullCircleSailor! Congratulations on your new old boat! 8) 8) For what it’s worth…. When we made our new cushions we recognized that we didn’t use the dinette as a dinette so we just left it down as a berth/lounge/bench and made the new cushions to fit in that configuration. It made things a lot ...

Re: Abandonded Vessels

Hi Be Free! Great idea on the separate thread! When I spent a dozen years working in Texas there were still a lot of not so brilliant ‘frontier’ mindsets wandering around loose… :D :D A good portion of that was the pseudo cowboys who wouldn’t know which end to bridle a horse that tended to cause the...

Re: There, but maybe not back again so quickly

Thanks Be Free! I figured there was a legit process! Last couple of years we’ve also seen obviously abandoned vessels in our area occasionally. They seem to sit for about a year before I believe DNR has them removed but by then they have rain flooded, been banged about, driven ashore or illicitly va...

Re: Dockline practicality - where is your bitter end?

We maintain a full set of dock lines on both sides, even when just messing around locally. That’s where our lines live. And the cleatergreeter gets used regularly. It’s made our docking simpler. We’re with the leave the lines on the boat approach. We also have two lines per side as well. Our line a...

Re: There, but maybe not back again so quickly

I wonder what the ‘salvage’ rules/laws are in that area ….
One sees pictures of boats with lots of stainless steel tubing exposed, masts and cables…

Re: Rub rail, other style....

For what it’s worth…. I’ve used odorless mineral spirits to soften/remove/clean-up 5200 and 5400. It ‘works’ but it mainly soften it and kinda tended to smear it around which required additional cleanup to get the residual film off surfaces. I personally found that careful scraping with a sharp edge...

Re: Rub rail, other style....

I'm looking to do my rub rail. You said you used a wire wheel on a handgrinder. I have a 4" makita grinder. So the wire wheel did not grind off any fiberglass? That's my concern. Hi Papa Baer! There are many different styles of wire wheels available right angle grinders. Lots of them are prett...

Re: Furler Foil Bend

Hi DaveR-NZ! I’m far from an expert on Furler but it is basically a piece of plastic that I somewhat pliable and susceptible to heat. That’s a good thing/bad thing depending on how you look at it. When stored horizontally it will naturally distort due to heat and gravity as well as its physical envi...

Re: Do you mostly sail or motor your Powersailor?

Mainly motor cruising to keep things simple for exploring the estuaries and rivers. Yes there are lots of open water to sail here but getting into the estuaries with a mast and rigging is just gonna get snagged. It’s all about a mater of choice for what you want to do and where you want to do it. Yo...

Oregon boater/kayak, canoe, raft permit requirements for 2026

Hi All! Did you hear about the new Oregon boating permit requirement that are in effect for this 2026 season? https://www.the-sun.com/news/16087201/oregon-boater-kayak-paddle-law-fine/ Part of this new legislation, in addition to permitting and fines is random “pop-up” on water inspections. I’m wond...

Hi Webb! Strangely enough not even sure that's HiSmile's weirdest flavor ... they also have glazed donut, cheesecake and both pickle and mustard flavors. So OverEasy a combo of the last two and perhaps you're on the way to the Big Mac ??? :| I can still hear the echos of my long expired youth in tha...
