Re: SailTimer Wind Instrument & Apps
Looks like a well-designed system. Very smart to make it wireless, and the app looks very smart as well. The price seems reasonable as well. Not something I need at the time as 99% of my sailing is on our small local lake, but seems like it would be a real boon for those who want an instrument and c...

Re: Accidental Gybe Prevention/Control - Boom Brake
I have experienced a few accidental gybes, but only when I allowed myself to get distracted, coupled with an unexpected and radical change in wind direction. I'm keen on minimizing deck clutter, halyards, control ropes, etc., so unless such a device would be free of those problems, my tendency would...

Re: Any downside with going to the optional larger, 5/32" headstay.
Here's something that I encountered, but won't apply to you unless you use twist-on hanks on your foresail(s). I ordered a sail and though it was advertised as having bronze piston-type hanks, came with plastic twist-on hanks. I decided to give them a try but they came off too easily when dropping t...

Slightly more weight aloft, but a negligible amount.

Re: Google Your Boat!
Cool thread. Google maps show my slip empty, and I can tell from the other boats that it was recent, so either I had the boat on the lake or on the hard. I did find two boats on the lake, but the resolution was not good enough for me to tell if either was my boat.

Re: 12 volt electric heat
I am not knowledgeable enough in battery types and technology to answer your question, but I will offer the following thoughts; -600 watts is a lot to ask of a battery, and one would need an inverter of fairly good size and cost to convert your DC to the AC that most electric space heaters use. -Dra...

Re: Boat smell
Ventilation, definitely. I recently devised and installed a cabin vent system just behind the mast with a timer. It has definitely helped keep the humidity and mildew under control. If anyone is interested, I can post details in the mods section. Note - requires 3D printed parts and a white frisbee ...

Re: Boat smell
Check out your local big box store. I have seen bags of odor absorbers that look like rocks. I have never tried them, so don't know how well they work. If you have access to shore power, perhaps an ozone-generating air cleaner would work. I have one at the house for the occasional odor run amok. Jus...

Re: Buying a 1989 26D
I would be interested in seeing details (a link maybe?) of the propane motor. I have an old Tohatsu 8-horse 2-stroke that is going strong, but one day it will be time to replace it. I would very much like to get rid of the stinky gas tank! 9.9 hp would be overkill, IMO. Extra weight is one issue, bu...

Re: Buying a 1989 26D
Cool! looking forward to your updates. I used to wonder why such a great boat is no longer in production. I think the answer is fiberglass. Short of some catastrophic event, a fiberglass boat is going to be around for a long time. Recreational pursuits have changed a lot, so the market for sailboats...
