Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Hi TheLandLady! I’d like a video of you rowing your Mac! That would be awesome! :!: :D Could you also get it while manually doing the hand bilge pump? That would be something to see! :D :D :D What is the make, model and year of your engine? With that information it can be determined that the fuse o...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Thanks! So far no blow with everything on so it should be good to golouiseravot wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 9:27 am Sounds like you tackled a massive wiring mess and turned it into a clean, functional setup—nice job! The 5A fuse should be fine; it just might blow a little sooner than a 6A. Great work getting everything sorted and safe!

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Hi TheLandLady! In my engineering practice I have always made sure that every circuit is protected. The relevant ABYC recommendation is that there be a fuse or circuit breaker within 7” of the positive battery terminal. There are good, reasonable a well thought out reasons for that recommendation. ...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Hi TheLandLady! Glad to help as best as I can…. A dead short it when the circuit between the battery terminals is completed without an application load. That’s gonna dump all the current capacity of the battery and things generally get very hot very quickly which can even potentially melt/vaporize ...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Yes, you need a fuse between the house battery and the Perko switch. Not putting a fuse on the starter battery is acceptable. There are two things to consider when sizing the fuse on the house bank: The maximum load you plan to put on the circuit The maximum load the wire can support in case of an ...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Hi TheLandLady! Fuses should be at least 25% larger than the maximum continuous current you plan to draw. If your batteries have maximum 100A draw, then 125A fuse is appropriate. Thanks OE. Ok… I’m almost getting confused but I’ll just keep asking questions lol. First, what is my max continuous cur...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Roger that, I wish I knew how to quote all 3 of you for the reply but basically I should have a fuse between the house battery and the Perko switch? Starter battery to perko is not fused and that’s ok? I am leaning toward keeping the starter one raw because of things I’ve heard about the added resis...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Scratch that, I see what you mean now. Those are for fusing the battery itself up to 300a. I thought that was more of a single-slot version of this, https://a.co/d/fv0Gkgb, but a $30 a pair and only needing a 15a fuse on two single lines to each battery I may just reuse some of those inline I cut ou...

Re: $150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
Wow, that must feel so much better to have it cleaned up. All because you wanted to check the lines at low tide. 8) You got some serious cables going into your bus bar and fuse bar. FYI, you can crank from the deep cycle just fine. I only have 2 deep cycle batteries and crank from either. I agree w...

$150 and a Wallyworld cutting board
I know the necessity of flushing your outboard while on a slip can be argued in either direction, but it can’t hurt so I went over to the marina late the other night to do just that and check on the new dock line setup at low tide. Well I got everything set up and went to start the motor, it turned ...

Re: Solo Docking
The boat will try to pivot around that center piling, but it will be caught by the blue line. That could be counteracted with some left rudder and reverse thrust I think? The blue line I was thinking more of a “catch it with a hook and hand walk it back” technique, or maybe even putting a prussik s...

Re: Solo Docking
Thanks Russ. Didn’t even think about using the middle piles for springers, good stuff. I’ll check it out tomorrow. Not sure how the marina would react to adding bumpers nailed in to the wood but lots of slips have fenders horizontally hung. One problem I have is I think my current dock lines are too...

Solo Docking
I’m on a slip that looks like this: https://i.postimg.cc/8sL5SVjn/IMG-3551.jpg The picture isn’t great but best I could do on my phone. Basically there’s a small finger pier, about the length of my cockpit, on the port side when I pull in stern-to. There are 5 pilings, one aft (and a little more sta...

Thanks for the advice guys! We launched, we got her off the transient slip and down to ours and we’ve had her out twice since, once with sails and all. Blisters be damned! More details are in a new thread I created in the trip log section, which will take over as my blog post for this seasons advent...
