Re: My Title shows 26ft yet the brochure says 25ft 10inchs

I'm in Texas as well. Our :macm: is exactly 25' 10" on the registration. You are correct with respect to requirement, insurance, and slip fee benefits to having it considered as a 25' vs 26'. Perhaps worth having your registration corrected to the official length from the manufacturer. FWIW, th...

Re: BWY Steering Quick Disconnect

I have the same exact boat. 26M Etec 50 and had exactly the same issue. I could turn rudders full lock to port but could not turn rudders full lock to starboard. The disconnect end would contact the motor well wall before reaching full over lock position of the rudders when turning to starboard. I ...

Re: BWY Steering Quick Disconnect

That is kind of you to remember, Ray.

Yes, Spain is still part of our plan. Still a few years off. Haven't allowed ourselves to think about it much lately. Everything with our son happened the week after that post, while we were in Germany.

BWY Steering Quick Disconnect

(Apologies that I haven't been on in quite a while, or sailing for that matter. Lost our son last summer and that has really thrown us.) Installed the BWY motor steering quick disconnect on our :macm: thanks to the many strong recommendations here. Really love the difference that it makes in handlin...

Orca-Proof Boats

We are in Spain this week, exploring marina options for our post-retirement boat. Lots of talk about the local orcas damaging boats due to the latest fad of snatching rudders. It occurs to me that our Macs would be well suited to deal with that, with our retractable rudders and daggerboards (or if y...

Additional Batteries on 26M

Hey everyone, We have 2 AGM batteries installed in the normal location, behind the companionway ladder in our 26M. I have 2 more laying about that I thought I might add in, both for reserve power when anchored and to help correct some of the tendency to list slightly to port. Wondering what others h...

Re: Simple mod for boat hook storage

We did a similar thing for boat hook storage on the cabin ceiling by replacing 2 of the screws that hold the channel for the companionway hatch with longer ones and adding simple stainless brackets to the inside. About $2 in materials. Also serves to hold one of our LED lights over the galley when n...

Good advice on the tires. Also worth checking hubs and brakes for corrosion, in case it was put away without a rinse

Re: Rigging Knife with "Marlin Spike"

Had one for years and wouldn't sail without it. Both essential safety gear as well as handy for most rigging tasks.

Doesn't need to be fancy. Think mine is a Myerchin. I like their all stainless one.

Re: 2003 26M

FWIW, we picked up a 2005 :macm: (almost identical to the one pictured) for a song at an auction in VA last year and brought it to TX. It had 2017 tags and had apparently been siting out in the elements since purchased. Hull was seriously faded and oxidized, running rigging and sails all had to be r...

Recommendations for Painting Underside of Hatches

Hi everyone, The underside of our companionway and v-berth hatches have become too ugly to bear. Developed some dark spots as well. I'm thinking of sand blasting them and then laying in a couple coats of good epoxy paint (hopefully get a good glossy match to the almond interior of the boat). Has any...

Re: Got a Spare Prop for your boat?

I would not have believed it possible if I had not seen the video... seems pretty nuts given the forces on a prop. I noticed that one of the comments on that video recommended 3d printing in polycarbonate and then resin or epoxy coating for increased strength. PC is a bit tougher to print than your ...

Re: Texas 200

I plan to do some sailing this spring and summer in Corpus Christi Bay and the surrounding lagoons, ICW, etc. Once I am more in full retirement mode I would very much like to do the Texas 200. Sounds like a blast! Well, be sure to say hello when you come to Corpus. We try to get out every other wee...

Re: Texas 200

... I grew up sailing on Corpus Christi bay. Congratulations on the slip. Curious - is the Bay Yacht Club still in existence? Yes indeed. Have to say that, except in chatting with some of the J boat crews, we haven't engaged with the "yachties" much. But the CCYC still has their clubhouse...
