new mast raising kit
" Maybe there are some other 26 S sailors out there, who might share what they do with the mast raising system? " I adapted the new system that comes for the Mac 26X and M to my 26S. You can get it from BWY (http://www.bwyachts.com/BWYParts/info.htm). Comes with instructions for adapting i...

Re: water leak - 26S
John: Similar symptom. Turned out to be the chainplates. Rain or heeling strong resulted in water in the bilges. Sealed the chainplates and have now a very dry boat:

Re: MacGregor 26 (1993)
Before you proceed to reseal deck-hull joint: I used to get substantial amount of water in the bilges that came from the base of the chainplates where the shrouds attach (you'll find several posts with this issue). Please check my mod at http://www.macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=1628 In ad...

Re: Motor well trim collar
I had the same issue with my Mac 26s. Worse, because the PO had drilled there and considerable water had gone to wet the board that is sandwiched within the fiberglass to provide rigidity to the transom. In my model, this collar is stuck, not rivetted like in earlier models (26D). http://www.macgreg...

Re: 26D Motor Mount Question
Carolyn, I am not sure if the picture is clear enough: http://macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?viewimg=2788 but I bolted the motor mount through the transom and put on the outside a piece of nylon cutting board, about 1/2 in thick that you can get in a supermarket/Target/Wallmart, etc.. It is pre...

My Honda 9.9 extra-long shaft tilts well out of the water: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22305097@N04/6798938890/in/set-72157629510767967 Have it on power tilt & electric start, fixed by a bracked: no steering with it. Once I got the gist of it, I manage to steer in & out of slips in any kind...

Re: Mac 26S Outboard motor recommendations
I have not made many comparisons. Had the older Honda 8. Got tired of cranking it and moved to the newer Honda 9.9 with electric starter and remote tilt. In both cases I had the 25 long shaft. I love the 9.9, and the extra weight does not seem to make an awful lot of difference. I use it permanently...

Re: Definitely Time to Install Reefing System
Hi, I use a Harken single-line jiffy reefing kit and works like a charm; kit came with all I needed. For suggestions on the line going aft you may check my mod posted in this forum: http://macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=1450 The knob that stops the slugs from falling off the mast slot hold...

Re: MAC26S Anchor Roller Installation
This is a worthy project and I've been going in circles with it. I have a Mac 26S (1994), these boats have the bow cruising light mouinted on deck, unlike the 26D that has it mounted on the pulpit. I find it hard to mount a bow roller without obstructing side vision of the cruising light, unless you...

If you keep your gasoline in the laz, then best is to have your battery elsewhere.

wooden flooring for Mac26 classic
Fellow Sailors, I have seen in many personal pages nice wooden or wood-like floors in Macs. There are different options, including some rather pricey (?) synthetic floor boards. Examples can be found in the link below: http://www.myboatsgear.com/featured_product/synthetic%20decking.asp In some cases...
