Re: MacGregor 26M trailer specs question

Yes, opened a claim, currently holding my breath.
The trailer policy will at at most pay $1,900 unfortunately, so it will have to be a well used trailer.

Re: MacGregor 26M trailer specs question

Yep, I found Supersail - very nice trailers, but at $6K I'd rather get a new outboard and never haul out the boat :-)

Having looked on local Craigslists, I hope to find something used in $1.5K range.

Thanks!

MacGregor 26M trailer specs question

Hello, Our factory 26M trailer was stolen from a fenced parking lot (who would do such a thing, right?!) and so we are now looking for a suitable used trailer.. As the boat is in the marina 800 miles from the house, it looks like I will have to find and buy a trailer based on dimensions and weight s...

Re: Ball pin spec - part of BWY steering disconnect kit

Yep, sent Todd @ BWY an email, hopefully will hear back..
And boat hook and duct tape has been my fallback plan so far, thankfully I have not had to use it :-)..

Ball pin spec - part of BWY steering disconnect kit

Hello all, I am trying to fabricate an emergency tiller for my MacGregor 26M that attaches directly to the outboard motor. As part of the tiller setup I would like to use the same ball pin that comes with the BWY steering disconnect kit (please see the image below). I could not find just the pin in ...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp

Thanks a lot for the comments! Sounds like we would do just fine with 30hp.. I just need to figure out if the bolt pattern will be different, I think this will determine whether when the time comes I'd have a go it it myself or get it done in a yard. I understand my Johnson 50hp likely uses "BI...

Re: 2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp

Thank you for the comments! I am sure a 15hp will push the Mac at hull speed.. My only argument against a minimal 10-15hp is whether it would have enough "longevity" to be used for hours on end - say 10 hours, to go against wind and seas and not think twice, when we absolutely need to.. Ou...

2004 26M repower from Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp to modern Suzuki 30hp

Hello all, We have a 2004 26M with original 4-stroke Johnson (Bombardier) 50hp motor. The motor has been generally good to us but recently had some issues which were addressed but that made me wonder what our strategy will be when it's time to repower.. The boat is in the slip in So Cal and we go un...

Water ballast permanently in - question

Hello all, We are keeping our 26M in the slip in Pacific salt water all year around and mostly using the boat under sail, so with full ballast. At this point we had the ballast in for the whole year. I check the level before major outing and there is some smell when I open the air valve. It doesn’t ...

Re: Cabin liner question

Thanks again all for great advice! This is definitely not my boom :-), I took a closer look at my boom today and it does not rotate and cannot furl the sail. The mainsail is single reef and boltrope, although not in bad shape. The reef seems to be higher than usual 12% though, more like "1.5 re...

Re: Cabin liner question

Thank you for the comment! I did not realize the boom is rotating on the Mac 26M... I still have the boat on the trailer and as it's really windy I have not raised the main sail yet (did spread it on the ground to inspect)... Planning to tow the boat to a lake on the weekend to rig everything and tr...

Re: Cabin liner question

Thanks a lot everyone for quick responses!! I am going to take a closer look at the cover above the dinette seat and the mirrors by the companionway (I noticed those and wondered about it :-) ) see if I can access the deck underneath. I ordered the kit from BWY to route lines to cockpit already - I ...

Cabin liner question

Hello all! I am a new owner of MacGregor 26M which is bone stock - hank on jib, all halyards at the mast, no electronics, etc. So I am starting on some priority improvements :-) - roller furling, lead all lines to cockpit, etc. which will require drilling thru and mounting things on deck / cabintop....
