Re: Max26x Repower: Suzuki DF60A vs DF60AV

HI there. I have a Suzuki DF 60 A on my 2011 M. Its a nice compact engine - which is good for squeezing through the smaller M stern opening. While quite quiet at trolling speeds, it does get noisy at 1/2 WOT. Perhaps the newer ones are better. I haven't much operating experience with it yet but it p...

Re: Pedestal leak at the base

I am about to remove the pedestal to get the BWY new-and-improved steering cable in. Apart from the fear of having pieces everywhere and uncertainty about how it should all go back together, the seal at the bottom of the pedestal has been on my mind too since I will very likely be breaking the origi...

Re: Motor choice

Starscream - when I get my 2011 Suzuki DF60 into the water and tested this spring, I will add to your database. In my limited runs last year I found I was not getting much if any increase in speed over that last couple thousand upper end RPMs - just lots more noise. So I will be interested in learni...

Re: Mold?

From the EPA: Cleanup and Biocides Biocides are substances that can destroy living organisms. The use of a chemical or biocide that kills organisms such as mold (chlorine bleach, for example) is not recommended as a routine practice during mold cleanup. There may be instances, however, when professi...

Re: Garage

Maybe its just me, but I'd go as high as I could afford. Nothing worse than a lack of headspace when you need to mess around in the cockpit once the boat is in the garage. I'd also be thinking about resell value - i.e.; for the next people who might want to buy your house and would be helped along ...

Re: celebrating 20 years of Mac ownership

Russ - I am not looking at my M right now but just imagining it, couldnt the port side v berth be temporarily extend past the head door - at least overnight? Yes, that prevents overnight visits to the head but I suppose if you have a portapotty you could just temporarily locate it to the galley area...

Re: Favorite Competitors to the 26M

I looked at a newer Seaward before buying my Mac 26M. Beautiful boat, salty lines etc but was 3x the price and much more weight - meaning could not be towed by my 4Runner (5000lb capacity). For what I planned to do with a boat, the Mac was the far better fit and being less expensive and lighter made...

Re: Thus endeth the 2023 season at 45N

Awesome photos and advice for sailing the 1000 Obstructions er Islands.....lots of rock out there- big and small but that's what makes it attractive. I bought my M in 2022 after doing a good deal of looking at, and reading about Xs and Ms. I have to agree that the X cabin is better, esp that enclose...

Re: Thus endeth the 2023 season at 45N

Starscream - That 1000 Island trip is on my to-do list. I just have to run the Rideau canal down from Ottawa I guess - or just put the boat on the trailer and save some time. How did you ever get 7 people on board?!? I find my 26M's cockpit tight with 4 and the boat tends to waddle worse than ever w...

Re: Rudder ropes

Is this an "X" specific thing? My M has a rope loop which I always assumed was to hold the rudders up and down. Now you got me thinking about hitting something with the rudders tightly secured in the down position. Mind you, one can't have them floating up either if not tied down. I will b...

Re: Cam cleat on rudders 26m

I haven't but adding cleats for the rudders is one of the modifications that is high up on my list of things to do. I am not sure why such things did not come with the boat - apart from cost that is.

Re: Sloppy Steering (video)

Hi there Looking in the box, I have a cable, a 90 degree tube, and a connecting rod and a couple of fittings. So no rack and pinion - at least as far as I can see. I think I was hoping that the rack/pinion would be in good shape given the age of the boat and the relatively light use it seems to have...

Re: Sloppy Steering (video)

Hi Prospect I have a 2011 26M and the steering slop is incredible. I'd have to swing the wheel back and forth through about 30 degrees to try to maintain a steady track forward. However, even with active steering efforts, the bow continued to go back and forth much to the alarm of oncoming boats :P....
