Re: Front sail roller furler seems a little 'clicky'
I'll upload some photos shortly of the exact setup I have, but I'm pretty sure the rigging is good. It seems like there are a few variants of the headsail mechanism. So, I'll likely be taking mine down to service it for peace-of-mind. I'll document that here. Agreed that it can be a big safety conce...

Front sail roller furler seems a little 'clicky'
It seems to be more difficult than it should be to roll in the front sail after a few hours of sailing. If there is the slightest amount of wind on it, it takes a lot of force to get it rolling. It then rolls in short steps: it clicks, rolls, stops, clicks, rolls, stops. I'm not too familiar with wh...

Re: Keeping the boat into wind - question
Looks like it was a dealer option, called a pedestal brake. Bill shows the PO paid $125 for it. I can't find one anywhere online, though. Do you have the steering quick disconnect, or is your tilted outboard flopping around while you're sailing? I don't have the quick disconnect. I like having the ...

Re: One genoa sheet seems to be better than two
I'm assuming you still have two working ends to your genoa line/sheet? One coming back to the cockpit on starboard, another to port? If you use one very long rope, you can simply run it from port, forward to the genoa grommet, then back to strbd. I have used simple stopper knots on the genoa gromme...

One genoa sheet seems to be better than two
I originally rigged my genoa with two separate lines each secured with a bowline. This was the most straightforward way for me to rig it, but the bowlines kept getting hung up on the shrouds and lifelines when tacking. Yesterday I replaced that setup with a single line secured with a cow hitch. Ther...

Re: Oopsie… When nature calls
if I want to just drift along while enjoying a bourbon and coke, I'm not trying to display snobbery here, but I am disturbed at the thought of someone at the helm with a bourbon and Coke. Not at the helm of a boat, car, truck, bus, plane, etc. Just my opinion, but drinking and driving are not OK. I...

Re: trailer sailor or not?
Hey there, the post you may be referring to is mine. I'm a new 26M owner and it's my first boat. I ended up getting a slip and it has made boating significantly more enjoyable. I really look forward to going out and don't stress about any part of it. One of the biggest factor for me getting a slip w...

Re: First day actually sailing! And some questions for the old timers
I'm actually just going ahead and getting a slip. I considered the valet service, but wouldn't want to rig the boat in the water. I also thought about storing it at the marina rigged with the mast raised, but the marinas near me that offer that have less than perfect docks. And that doesn't really s...

How do you anchor in a deep lake with a short shoreline?
I've exclusively gone out to sail in Lake Travis in Austin. Every time I go out I always want to stop and swim but I can never find the right place to do it. The lake is at pretty low levels but it's still too deep to anchor (100+ feet). The first problem is that I can't find any sandy spots to beac...

Re: First day actually sailing! And some questions for the old timers
Never had an issue with the people at a ramp, but we did stop camping at State Parks due to the decline in our society, so I can imagine. Still The effort of the all day affair required for hooking-up/towing/rigging/launching/recovering/derigging/towing/parking etc.. of our boat has resulted in it ...

Re: First day actually sailing! And some questions for the old timers
On the ballast aspect… Q: Did you close the aft fill valve? If you left it open then the ballast can/will drain out as you sail!!! :o :o :| :| It was never designed to be left open. (This is Especially with the vent left open all the time.) Best Regards Over Easy 😎😎🐩🐈 I didn't explain properly but ...

WhoooooshLooking at your second picture you appear to have forgotten to fill your ballast tank. That is way too much heel for the apparent wind based on the wave heights.![]()

Re: First day actually sailing! And some questions for the old timers
If something is taking away the fun and/or relaxation, you need to nip it... :D Agreed 100% I have been launching from a State Park. To launch and park costs $15 for the day. If I go sailing twice a month, that is $360 a year. A private marina is about $600 a year to launch from. I don't mind trail...

Looking at your second picture you appear to have forgotten to fill your ballast tank. That is way too much heel for the apparent wind based on the wave heights. :D I'm going to hypothesize that this had more to do with trim than ballast. The previous owner rigged up an easy way to tell if the ball...

Re: First day actually sailing! And some questions for the old timers
Your main sheet is upside down. The cam block should be down on the traveler. Hah! :? That's good to know! I found a long thread about docking on here. Backwards seems to be the way to go. Kind of unnerving because the rudders are right there ready to get mashed. I'll practice near a buoy and see h...
