Re: How long to rig and de-rig D, X or M?

I've only had mine 1.5 years, but I always trailer and usually day-sail, so time really matters. I'm usually about 45 minutes from pulling into the ramp to sailing, though I have done 30. If I had an experienced hand it could be 20ish. I keep my roller furler/head sail, boom and main on the mast, sh...

Re: Air Conditioner Portable

I have an 8K portable single hose unit. It works, but poorly. Your temp changes for running 5 hours are abysmal IMO. Mine aren't much better. I REALLY wish I hadn't cut a hole for that vent  I'd switch to a window unit in a heart beat! One the genset, I rigged a 3 gallon boat tank to a nipple i...

Re: To Boomkicker or not

I am not a racer and single hand mostly- so I rig for easy handling. Used the boom kicker a few times but the topping lift is easier for me (not a racer). As for the boom vang, it is only needed when reaching and when single handing was a hassle going forward to adjust. When reaching, I use ‘genoa ...

Re: Anchor setup

Over-Easy...that's funny, and kind of sad, that someone at WM was that uneducated about splicing. I mean, I get it, they aren't all going to be experienced riggers. But they have a department where they do the splicing. You'd think they'd be a little in-the-know! I love me some dynema! Brilliant ide...

Texas 200 2024

Second week in June. Who's in? www.texas200.com for details After doing my first run in 2009 in a PDR, I haven't failed to be a part of the 200 for the last 15 years. I've sailed 11 times, dropped out once, met the group at the last camp once, and partied at the start without sailing twice. I've had...

Re: Texas 200

Started a new thread for 2024. Join up if you're going. I'll actually be there this year. Last year I ended up just flying down for the start and then getting back to work on my kitchen. Nothings stopping me this year.

Re: Anchor setup

I also gave up on shackles. Besides the risk of comin undone, they seem to catch on stuff a lot. I love my rode-to-chain splice. When that hits the roller it slide right through!

Re: 26X "Mac Slap"

I also have the bwyachts CB dyneema line. What knot have you used to stay snug and not slip but also fit in the CB notch? I haven't replaced mine yet, but when I do this spring it will be with Dynema as well. Knots don't hold well in this slippery line, and, as mentioned, it doesn't cleat well eith...

Re: Mast rake, boom position/level/headroom ?

Am I reading this to say the boom will hit you while you're sitting down? Mt sail is bone stock and definitely will no even come close to hitting me sitting down!

Curious where one would find a refence for this?

Re: mold-mildew

I live around Galveston TX...so same high humidity and mildew growth in any closed boat. I store it covered and closed...if I left the companionway open, it would be open invitation for wasps, rats, stray cats, and god-only-knows what else! I run a fan 24/7 and a dehumidifier (very small) which I ha...

Re: Texas 200

I'm not registered. I always wait until right before the event...for no good reason at all. I'm about 75% sure I'll have my Mac, but I have to pull out Friday morning to catch a plane Saturday morning.
