Re: New Boat/Travel Refrigerator Suggestions for 2026

I too will be looking for a good option of fridge in the future. I'm assuming the thermo electric ones discussed maybe work on the same principal as the ammonia/propane models used in small campers for years? I used one for years in my small camper and loved it! The propane part of it was no more th...

Re: 300Ah LiFePO4 upgrade

Thanks Be Free and Starscream for all the info! I find myself a bit electrically challenged I'm afraid. Heres a couple of questions I have: 1-Im finding when reading up on the Renogy DC to DC charger when the Start battery (lead acid)has satisfied with charge the Renogy will start pulling 20 Amps to...

Re: 300Ah LiFePO4 upgrade

PS, As you may note my diagram doesnt have the 1,2,both switch in play. To my understanding the Renogy will force my 50 HP Suzuki to charge the lead acid first and then switch to the life po house battery with no 1 2 switch needed.

Re: 300Ah LiFePO4 upgrade

Im so glad you brought this up Starscream! I am doing the same thing with the exception of Solar. Yours looks pretty complex! Heres a diagram of what I've found on the net that seems to be somewhat similar. But I look forward to the experts in here letting us know the right way! PS I use a Honda EU2...

Re: Experience with Wireless Anemometers?

Sorry to change subject just a bit, but I too have been looking into portable weather devices mainly for the barometer function. Being in the SW US and sailing lakes here there's always a chance of microbursts or thunderstorms coming out of no where. Im looking at a Kestrel 2500 which appears to hav...

Re: New Option for Portable Boat Air Conditioning!

Im typically boating on SW US lakes so dealing with weather in summer thats maybe 85 at 7 AM and 100 to 105 degrees the rest of the day so unless I was anchored next to an ice machine I dont think the contraption at the beginning of this thread would work well for me :D . What I have found in temps ...

Re: Enlarged Ballast Plug Hole

Hey Kurz, At first I laughed at your post :D . Then realized thats not totally ridiculous!, have the boat on water prefferably, grab a nearby garden hose throw it in the cabin and start filling! once the water level got about a half an inch above floor level stop and watch for bubbles! Also a good t...

Re: Enlarged Ballast Plug Hole

Thanks Russ, I couldnt figure out how to copy and paste the Amazon item. The other reason I purchased that plug with built in shrader valve was to test my ballast tank for leakage. (Maybe there are other Macgregor owners out there that have wondered if their tanks are actually sealed up good?) so on...

Re: Enlarged Ballast Plug Hole

Here is an option from amazon if your rubber on yours has deteriorated. This one has a shrader valve coming out of the top because Im experimenting with forcing the water out of ballast without using the outboard to do it but it fit in there snugly and seals the plug hole nicely. Sorry for no photo ...

Re: Sailing/Spearfishing YouTuber To Buy MacGregor 26

Welcome Dan, I too have the similar adventures in mind for my X. Bought mine a year and a half ago. I live in the desert Southwest so I have to travel great distances to find Lakes to explore. So I look at pulling in to RV parks or campgrounds ( or Walmart parking lots) on the way there so am in the...

Re: Engine downsize final thoughts

I was thinking of downsizing my outboard from my suzuki 50 HP but what deters me is not that I'd be giving up speed as I lake sail only but the noise factor. I found the Decibels of my suzuki 50 HP at hull speed would be less than a smaller motor at hull speed. I dont remember where i found the info...

Re: Macgregor X and M under power

Commenting on the video "These 11 sailboats are worthless in 2026", I as well spendt 3 months in 2024 researching every x that came on the market on several sites and found none less than $10,000 before buying mine. I had no idea they were $15,000 new in 2002, that looks like they hold the...

Re: Upgrades that hurt your boats value

I'm still building my shower in my boat! :D But I wont cut any bulkheads in the process. Come to think of it, i dont think there are any are there? The hull and the strengthening incorporated ballast tank is pretty much it for hull strength right? actually i guess when the top is attached at the rub...
