Re: Need length of shift cable 26X Bigfoot 50HP

Look at my last post. The cable length may be either 12 or 10 feet depending on low the code on the model number works.

Re: Need length of shift cable 26X Bigfoot 50HP

Thanks for the good answers and suggestions. We went to my boat yesterday. I brought along a neighbor that works on race cars. He determined that it was lack of lubrication in the shifting control. The control had to be partially removed and lubed with white lithium grease, which was taken off place...

Need length of shift cable 26X Bigfoot 50HP

My boat is a 1999 26X purchased from Arena Yachts in Alameda, California. The motor is a Mercury Bigfoot. The engine control (shift) in an Ultraflex B85. I need to find out the length of the shift cable. The throttle cable works very smoothly, but theboat is very very difficult to shift. The boat is...

Should be cheaper

I replied to the wrong pst on this once. I had all 4 carbs of my 1999 50Hp. Bigfoot taken apart and cleaned for $500 in Newcastle , California (near Sacramento) by Galaxie Marine. The said it took 5 hours which was longer than what they said was normal. The cost was $95 per hour. Carbs do not need t...

Actual Cost for Me

To disassemble, clean-out the gunk from my carburators ( 50 HP Mercury Bigfoot 1999) it cost just a bit less than $500.00. Most of it was for the 5 hours of laborat $98 per hour.. I wouldn't go to a place that says it takes them 17 hours to fix it. The carbs do not have to be rebalanced after the cl...

What I asked for

I did not ask for the long term storage maintenance. I had them replace the impeller , adjust the valves(they were OK without adjustment), replace filters and fluids.

Thanks

Thanks to all for the wonderful responses to my question. I've already commited to having the dealer do the work on the carburators. There are 4 of them. It might be a good idea for me to learn how to do it myself. I do have a repair manual. It maybe a bit more complicated than some might expect. I ...

The upshot of it all

Thanks for all the input. I will try to answer some of the questions. I did not know that the choke worked by pushing in the key. I did not know that by pulling the throttle handle out the engine could be given more gas without shifting. I would have bought a EFI engine, but it was not available in ...

A bit better, but

Thanks for the help. Now, it will run for about 10 to 15 seconds. I will check the items mentioned. I might pull a couple of plugs(which are brand new) to see if they are wet with excess gasoline. It has in the past been hard to get started. It would start to idle and then quit 3 or 4 times and then...

Now it runs for about 5 seconds

Still can't get it to run except for very short times. It has been really hot here and I am going to try it when it gets cooler. It seems to run for up to about 5 or 6 seconds, and then it dies. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm wondering if the plugs are all wet with gasoline and therefore the...

Motor starting after not using for a while

My 50 Hp Mercury Bigfoot has been not been run since i had regular maintenance performed on it about 2 months ago. I just had a shop check out the electrical system and wiring in my 26X since it would not even click when I turned the starting key.. I hooked up a water hose for cooling the motor in m...

Thanks Catingale and...

I was hoping that someone out there is would like sailing on the Delta. I don't care whether the "crew" has their own boat, or not. My boat is kept at the really nice Stockton Sailing Club. This is supposed to be the biggest sailing club West of the Mississippi. Some say it is the best clu...

I wonder if anyone has tried to use a winch external to the trailer, for example, set-up in the bed of a pickup. How about putting the winch in a better position on the trailer? As previously stated the winch pulls the boat down, not forward. I live a block away from a trailer shop. I thought of hav...
