Re: Sailing/Spearfishing YouTuber To Buy MacGregor 26

There's only one way to redeem that: a Lake Champlain meetup this summer in full voyage-mode :D :D hopefully with you on your own Mac. Glad you're on this forum, you won't find a more helpful group of Mac Owners, nor a better moderated site. And while you’re on Lake Champlain you can visit our boat...

Re: Replacement compass

Yep, never came with one. But if you post a photo of what you’ve got, I’m betting one of us can determine what it is.

Re: Buying my first boat

Welcome! We have quite a few members out your way, and you are fortunate that the leading parts supplier for Macs is headquartered near Seattle as well ( Blue Water Yachts ). Macs work well for one or two couples, and a great many of us owners take our boats out for a week or more quite happily. I'm...

Re: Crosswinds and docking

The factory documents pretty strongly state not to have the centerboard down while motoring at speed. I would never recommend it, and I think it’s important that we reiterate that here. If the centerboard is extended, in whatever measure, there is a potential, when in a sharp turn - either planned o...

Re: MacGregor 26M mast issue

Yeah, that’s a pretty nasty bend. However, providing there’s no kink in the mast, or any cracks, it’s quite possible to be straightened using gentle pressure. My mast got a little bit of a bend in it, and I straightened it out that way, and it’s been fine ever since. It wasn’t quite as extreme as yo...

Re: Crosswinds and docking

Anytime I’m moving slow slowly and maneuvering with my Mac, it’s an “all boards down” situation, for ease of maneuvering and safety sake. However, once I can put a line on the boat, and control it with that, then it’s time for “boards up”. So once the boat is docked and tied up, it’s boards up. Also...

Re: The myth of aging fiberglass

There is definitely wood in the structure of some of the Macgregor boats. However, all of the wood is well above the waterline. As such, as long as the boat is in reasonable shape, that wood should never really rot. That being said, sometimes it’s only balsa wood, so it’s not exactly very strong stu...

A great time was had by all at tonight’s “Mid-Atlantic Mid-Winter MacGregor Gathering of the Faithful” in Blue Bell, PA. We shared great food and drinks, and even better conversation and camaraderie. Lovely seeing you all! We’ll do it again next year.

Re: Type of screw into boom.

The factory used sheet metal screws, but I’m not a fan. I use riv-nuts to screw into sheet metals - they’re strong and offer you a deep thread in thin metals.

Re: Practical Sailor just dropped a great vid on the Mac

I always thought that was a weird show, but at 11 I probably wasn't their target audience. :D We visited the seaside town in Wales, where it was filmed. We were there on a day when there was virtually no one around, and it was the most bizarre and eerie place I’ve ever been. Both my sons, who very ...
