Re: Those with Facebook…
Not sure why you're getting that, Ray - I just checked it again and it's still there. Are you a FB user? As for what it was, it was a video of a Mac passing by a marina, at full blast, so it was planing and moving along nicely. The issue was the negative comments about Macs... lots of comments about...

Re: premade 26X cushion covers
Anyway, the reason for the post is things have gotten slow at work (my day job) so am offering other Mac 26X owners replacement cushions. I can also do 26M owners cushion replacements as a neighbor owns this boat and would be able to get the pattern for these cushions as well. Unlike others, I can ...

Re: Service suggestions
Also..maybe grease the motor pivot points and tilt. Yep - that's important. Grease all the available zirk fittings, and apply a small amount of engine oil on any moving joints that aren't greased. You could check the tilt fluid to ensure it's properly topped up. Generally this isn't a problem, but ...

Re: Almost ready to float
Yeah, I'm with Russ. Never, never NEVER have a quick release or push-to-release pin on ANY important rigging , and this particular point of rigging is the most important of all. If that link gives way unexpectedly, people can be very seriously injured or potentially die... and your boat will be seri...

Lubricate the steering gear/cables
When is the last time you serviced the cooling impeller? If it's over 5 years, I'd replace it.

Re: Waxing a Trailer
Well, wax repels water, and water creates rust, so, yeah, waxing could theoretically prevent rust on a trailer. However, the really serious rust on our trailers occurs where you can't wax... inside the tongue, where it joins the 'Y' section going back to the axle. So... a waxed trailer could potenti...

Re: Poked a hole in muh boat.
Looks like there was a bubble between the gel coat and the polyester. It’s a common manufacturing defect in fiberglass products. In which case, it’s not a leak issue. I would simply get some Marine-Tex, fill the void with it, and apply masking tape over it to give you a smooth finish. When it harden...

Re: 26X Trailer Repair
I also suggest Tractor Supply. They have a surprisingly good selection of trailer parts and supplies. Take your old U-bolt with you to ensure a good fit.
(I should note that for some reason I can’t say “u-bolt” without wanting to call it “das bolt”. )

Similar discussion over here.... https://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=367630#p367630 I recommend reading it, as it's recent information and has some good suggestions. In March I will be picking up my 26X with a shiny new Suzuki DF60AV four-stroke in place of my old Tohatsu 50D two-...

Re: Old geezer stanchion mod
For those considering getting into 3D printing, beware. If you are inclined to go down the rabbit hole when it comes to projects, this is an enabling device. I mean, for Pete's sake, as I write this I am printing a snap-on lid for an odd-sized can of tomato paste. It's a great tool, but also a grea...

Re: Leather on steering wheel, self made
For outdoor/marine use, the best leather to use is elk hide, preferably tanned grey or white (keeps wheel cool in the sun). Elk hide is weather resistant, doesn't shrink as much as most leathers, and if applied rough-side out it makes a nice soft, but non-slip gripping surface. This is what *very* e...

Re: Aussie invasion 😁
I’m curious where you plan on beginning your trip. Where you start off in the United States will have a great bearing on the kind of sights you’ll be able to see. Like Australia, the United States is a very, very big place. If you start in the Pacific Northwest, for instance, then going across the t...
