Re: Sailboat Capsize: Anyone heard anything?
Sorry. The video you posted is a different one. Go to the Blaze.com. They have the news report from Channel 8 in San diego and their video clearly shows them towing the boat in to a marina. It's a 26D.

Re: Boat Capacity
I read somewhere that the Coasties use this formula. length x width divided by 15. A Mac 26S like yours would be 26 x 8 = 208 divided by 15 = 13.8 people to be legal. That sounds like a lot of people for a boat this size, so it's up to you to decide. I have a 94 26S and I've had a max of 10 adults a...

Motor running hot
I have a 1994 Honda 7.5 on my Mac 26S. Recently, it overheated, so I changed the impeller which didn't look bad at all. I suspected this was not the problem, so I removed the thermostat to have a look. It was basically a ball of barnacles so I replaced it with a new one. We went out Saturday and it ...

I can't believe the dumb thing I did!!!
Author’s note: This is an updated version of a story that I wrote for the MacGregor Sailors forum back in 2002, when the topic was embarrassing things we’ve done on our boats. The original was lost when a friend of my wife spilled her wine on my laptop. That was the end of the story and the laptop. ...

Re: in florida shallow waters
Why not just spend the measly 22 bucks and buy the auto-release cleat. Done!
I can't see myself dinking around with dowels or twigs while I'm sailing. With the cleat, it pops, reset it, cleat the line and continue on. Simple and effective. No need to re-invent the wheel.

The stock rudder flips up also. It's what hold's it down that we're talking about. I know four people that used to have idasailor rudders. They threw them away when they broke off for no apparent reason.

Re: in florida shallow waters
Peter, I have a bimini a friend gave me off a 26X. It fits my 26S perfectly. You're welcome to come and have a look at it. Dave, I'll show you that cleat next time we see you. I am planning to go to Cayo Costa in March. I even have some vacation time now, so I'm hoping to get out there early on Frid...

Re: in florida shallow waters
Peter, I experienced the same problem with my 26S. We moved to SW Florida from Wisconsin, where we mostly sailed on the deep waters of Lake Michigan. Now we launch at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, in the Caloosahatchee River, where the shallow water is treacherous (not to mention we now have tides to d...

Re: Cruiseing Biscane Bay FL.
Luke, what do you mean "overpowered"? I think it's just about right. I need a car that does 180 MPH, cuz I live like 4 miles from work. So I can say "good bye, dear" and zooooom, I'm at work.
