Genoa tracks on a 26C

Has anyone installed tracks/blocks for the genoa sheets on a 26S or D? My boat is lacking them, and the previous owner ran the sheets to blocks attached to the stanchion bases then back forward to the winches. I'd like to add tracks so I have some control over sheeting angles, but I'm at a loss as t...

Re: Planned Mods For 2015

Oh, where to begin? My poor old 26S wasn't in the greatest shape when I bought it. Years of being unemployed followed by 4 years being a full time college student (thank you GI Bill), and a few more years getting my feet on the ground and career established have left the boat severely neglected. But...

Re: 2015 Vacation Planning for Lake Michigan. Need some inpu

One more note about charts, Azzerac. If you plan to rely on services and amenities shown on charts and cruising guides, you should call ahead to verify those services are indeed available. As an example, I was using Richardson's Lake Superior Chartbook and Cruising Guide for my trip. It indicated th...

Re: 2015 Vacation Planning for Lake Michigan. Need some inpu

The X is certainly capable of a trip on the Great Lakes like you describe. I spent a summer on my 26S sailing from Marquette on Lake Superior down to Sebewaing MI on Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron. As others have mentioned, keep a close eye on the weather, as it can change in a hurry. I've seen a forecas...

Re: weak spot in the hull?

I have several spots like that in my 91 Mac S. No damage or mark is visible on the outside of the hull, but light shines through to the inside just like your photo. On my boat they are all round, and about 1/2" or less in diameter. I figure its been floating since 91, so it's probably nothing t...

Re: Air conditioner question...

No, you will definitely ruin the unit in short order by placing it on its side. Your thinking was correct, most likely the compressor would be oil-starved. The oil would either pool in an ineffective location in the compressor, or the compressor would end up circulating the majority of the oil throu...

Sebewaing, MI marina

Hey everyone! I've been absent from the board for a while as my boat never left my yard last season. Vowing to never let that happen again, I've decided to keep my boat in the water this year and I found a great deal at the Sebewaing marina: $300 bucks for a slip for the whole season, electricity, w...

Re: What can you tell me about the 26D?

What should I expect to upgrade for better performance? Any problems with the hull or deck that I need to watch for? I own a 1991 S model and agree with the others that the D/S models are great boats. The laz is huge, but it's depth can be a bit of a problem, making it hard to reach stuff at the bo...

I don't know the exact deck thickness of a V-222, but I wouldn't think it would be much different than my 26S. I used a thru-deck coax connector from West Marine. To install I simply drilled through the deck with a spade bit, then set the connector in sealant.

I have a 1991 26S with a Johnson Sailmaster 8HP 2-cycle. I would definitely recommend the extra-long shaft motor. The shaft length on mine is 25", and I still have problems with the prop ventilating in following seas or in hard turns. My 8HP pushes my boat at about 7mph at WOT and about 5.5-6mp...

Congratulations on your new boat and welcome to the board Rod! I'm also about to attempt to move my fuel tanks to the lazarette. I want to build some type of floor and/or shelves to make the space more user-friendly. I'm 6'2" and I can't even reach the bottom of the stern locker. I found a real...

Re: Accessing the Dboard

First of all, Macgregor designed the trailer to fit exactly under the dboard so it could not drop on the road while trailering. Is your boat situated somewhat forward of the trailer crossmember? Kraney mentioned that his boat is a 1992 model, which has a swing centerboard rather than the daggerboar...

Mainsheet-to-tiller self steering

I've been searching for options to setup some form of self-steering for my 26S. Since the cheapest tiller autopilot is about 400, and a windvane isn't very practical for a trailer sailor, that seems to leave only some kind of sheet-to-tiller setup. Has anyone set up such a system on their Mac? Jared

The forestay on a boat with roller furling runs inside the furler. On a 26D or 26S it is made from 1/8" stainless steel cable. It attaches to the bow of the boat with a clevis pin. I can probably post some pictures from my 26S in a day or two. It is hard to make it reach to put the pin in place...

Just a note for strange things to find in your mast.... When I was attempting to run the wire to my masthead VHF antenna, I found not only wasp nests (long abandoned by their builders, thankfully) but also some type of mushrooms/fungus. It seemed to be similar to the type of fungus you see growing o...
